On Discovery is a well-known fantasy adventure novel by George Smith. It's one of the only stories of Andreas van Velthoven, the mythological Lovian adventurer, that has been written down by a famous writer. It was published in 1880, as one of Smith's earliest works, and became a great sales hit. This book made Smith famous and gave him the opportunity to write more and more genres.

Plot Edit

The story is based on one of the Andreas stories, mostly called Andreas makes the Great Crossing. In the book Andreas, Benjamin and the guide leave California for the unknown Pacific Ocean. Their ship shipwrecked and after having roamed the ocean for days and days, they are picked up by Alex' sailing ship. They meet Esopé, a wise man who tells them of the wonderful archipelago, in the far west. Alex berthed in San Diego and Andreas and his fellowmen sailed back off, towards the beloved archipelago. Many obstacles they survived and finally they reached Lovia. In the woods they met The Shadow, with whom Andreas duelled. Finally, the Lion defeated the Shadow, both injured. The story ends when Andreas returns to the camp on the shore.
