[edit] Name
The name 'Kinley' comes from the 25th president of the United States of America and far, far relative of mayor Patrick McKinley, William McKinley. When the city was founded in 1903 by former employees of William McKinley they named it after him.
[edit] History
In 1903 former employees of the murdered president William McKinley moved from the USA to a little island nearby. A that time the island did not have a name yet, so they called it American Island. They needed a place to live so they built a few houses on the southern part of the island and they called the little town, McKinleyville. Which was changed to Kinley in 1985 by the father of the current mayor, Patrick McKinley, Joseph McKinley.
