King Sebastian speaking

Prince sebastian

Together, we can revive the good old days of the past!

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls. My most beloved fellow countrymen, a new age is upon us. Today marks the beginning of a new period in our time, a new era in Lovian history. With the abdication of our most honourable King Dimitri, and the recent misfortunes of his brother Prince Alexander, a new King will take the throne. That King, my dear brothers and sisters, is me. And that day, is today. Today is not only a day of celebration for yours truly and you, my friends, but also one of reflection. Let us remind the brave sacrifices our previous King has made for us. Surely my cousin has worked well, has he not? Surely he has worked hard, and given up so much for his work. Free time he had not, tirelessly working for the good of the nation. But every man has a limit, a breaking point. His came two years ago, in 2011. No speech or public appearance we saw since. My cousin is not a bad man, he isn’t. But neither is he a strong man, nor very passionate about the affairs of state. Ever since the Civil War he preferred to stay out of the limelight, hiding away in his private domicile with his wife Elizabeth. He has every right to do so, but a nation needs a head of state who is visible, who is there for his people. Especially when dark days are ahead, when violence sweeps the nation and his people need him most. In the Civil War I fought, as did brave men such as Oos Wes Ilava, and Mr. Costello. As did many, many other daring men and women. Young and old, they shed blood for the nation, and our current wealth shows it this was not in vain.

My cousin, however, did nothing. When there was trouble, he fled. Flat-out ignored it, refused to comment. A coup? He fled. A war tearing apart the nation he is supposed to rule? Nowhere he is to be seen. I will have no ill word spoken of this man, as he is my flesh and blood and I care for him deeply. But this man, we can all agree, was neither strong nor powerful and was clearly not cut out for the job. He lacked courage and he lacked conviction. He was a man of books, a man of letters. A learned man, but hardened nor strong. He was stately nor imposing, as much in need of a spine as I am of intellectual prowess. I stand here before you, not a learned man like him, but a man like any other. I am not a bookworm, though I love reading, nor am I a professor. I do not hide my nose in books or my wife’s bosom when my people need me.

Today, people of Lovia, we do not lose a King, we gain one. For we cannot miss him who is never there, nor can we lose that which we never had for the last two years. Dimitri gains a private life, and the ability to live out the rest of his days as a private citizen. He can now focus on his studies, his work and Elizabeth, his wife, who I know is the love of his life. Away from the terrible job, that dreadful task to lead a nation, he can finally raise the family he’s been dreaming of, and retreat into the unknown as Prince Dimitri. And I wish him the best of luck on doing so. This man was never supposed to be a King, he never really became one either. Still we will miss him and remember the things he has done for us. Five years he has ruled us, five long years it have been. We owe him our deepest gratitude. But now a new day is here, a new era has arrived.

Lovia’s a democracy, Lovia’s the land of the free. Lovia is a country for you and for me. Lovia is, too, a monarchy. But you cannot be a monarchy without a King. So from this day forward, let it be known... Lovia is Lovia again, the way Lovia is supposed to be. A monarchy not in name only, but in the fullest meaning and sense of the word. God Bless Lovia, and may His light shine down upon us all, for we Lovians are truly born under lucky stars and good things shall come to us! Naranja Naranja!

:King Sebastian I of Lovia (talk) 12:55, August 30, 2013 (UTC)

It's nice to have a king finally make a speech in Lovia after Dimitri didn't give us a Christmas Speech, which many people in Lovia were disappointed about, however it seems that with a reasonably long speech, you have made up for that, and it is also understandable why Dimitri didn't make a Christmas Speech.

There was alot of smack talk about Dimitri in there, but it's nice to see we have a king that finally takes the time to make some speeches. Thanks for making this speech, I'm sure lovians will be very happy to finally have a king who makes speeches. Happy65 Talk CNP LogoCNP 13:11, August 30, 2013 (UTC)

I am perfectly okay with this... but I want to make a request: Could you retake your photos, but this time with no neckbeard? Smile Limba TimeMaster (talkcontribs) 15:38, August 30, 2013 (UTC)

Btw, it looks like we still need four more votes in the Second Chamber for the referendum to be ratified. :s TimeMaster (talkcontribs) 15:47, August 30, 2013 (UTC)

@TimeMaster: Dimitri abdicates, he told Yuri he sees no reason to be king anymore with so little investment on his part, with no time and motivation. He abdicates and thus, with our monarch's agreement and the nation's majority on our side, Oos and I have taken the liberty of replacing Dimitri with his cousin. If you see the Main Page you will see these changes have by now been officially implemented. As for my facial hair, haters gonna hate. This King's scruffy whether you like it or not. Babyface Belgian nerd out, handsome stubbly outdoorsman in! Smile Limba King Sebastian I of Lovia (talk) 16:06, August 30, 2013 (UTC)

How long did it take you to write that speech? Seriously though, even though I wanted a republic it's good to see a King that is a good speech writer and more importantly ACTIVE!! Frijoles333 / Marcel Cebara (talk) 21:23, August 30, 2013 (UTC)
It took me about twenty-twentyfive minutes to write this speech, then a minute to post it. It's really pretty easy when you're used to writing long essays and stories, or regularly exchanging lengthy emails. Which I am. Smile Writing a speech similar to this one on a regular basis is, for me, not much of a bother at all. I like to do it, and do it with ease. They'd be fitted to the occassion, and you can also request a speech from me on a certain subject you yourself find important. All you need to know is go to my talk page and have me know. I'm a king of all Lovians after all. Naranja Naranja! King Sebastian I of Lovia (talk) 22:21, August 30, 2013 (UTC)

Referendum

I was thinking about all the recent events, and I thought it might be a good idea to make the monarchy/republic referendum IC and the Sebastian/Dimitri referendum OOC. So the IC storyline would be: Dimitri abdicates, and Congress decides that given a significant republican sentiment in the nation, it would be a good idea to hold a referendum on the continuation of the monarchy before crowning a new king. The referendum is rejected by a large margin - as it was OOC - and as Alexander has requested to be removed from the LoS, Sebastian is crowned immediately. I think this is a nice explanation, but any thoughts? --Semyon 16:54, August 30, 2013 (UTC)

I still like the 'He became a republican' reason. :P --Semyon 18:17, August 30, 2013 (UTC)
Having lost most if not all of his popularity in recent years, starting during and after the Civil War, King Dimitri has decided to abdicate as he feared for him to stay on as King would ultimately hurt the monarchy's standing in society beyond repair. Each day of his unpopular rule would have made it harder for his ultimate successor, so partiallly his abdication was a form of royal damage control. He also genuinely lacks motivation and conviction to fulfill a duty he no longer wholeheartedly supports, for personal reasons. King Sebastian I of Lovia (talk) 18:18, August 30, 2013 (UTC)
So this a vote to agree on a story, right? We could just say that Dimitri wants to dedicate more time to his family and other interests, or more interestingly that he got a strange illness that stopped him from ruling Frijoles333 / Marcel Cebara (talk) 21:25, August 30, 2013 (UTC)
Can we just say health reasons? Like idk hes a strong ass cancer beating dude and shit? Marcus/Michael Villanova 03:02, August 31, 2013 (UTC)
Well, a king would normally not abdicate for health reasons at such a young age. Usually, he'll just temporarily step away from public life. --OuWTBsjrief-mich 08:04, August 31, 2013 (UTC)

Category

Alright, I just did some fixing on our category system. To make it clear to all users for once and for all, I'll give you guys the standard set of rules to work with :P

  1. Categories in Lovia are usually not in plural: Category:Writer.
    1. Unless it's a specific group: Category:Nicomedia novels.
    2. Or Wikia-automated category, most likely to be file copyright cats: Category:Fair use files.
  2. Only the first element of the category is capitalized: Category:Baseball player.
    1. Unless it's part of a name that is generally fully capitalized, most likely a building/company/etc: Category:Royal Art Gallery.
    2. It is a family name category: Category:Hladovka Family.
      1. Please note: "royal" is not a surname in Category:Royal family.
  3. Categories are named with articles if it's a phrase which usually takes an article: Category:Image of an animal and Category:Image of the Capitol.
  4. Several categories are not used:
    1. f.e. Category:Author > Category:Writer (try to check synonyms if a cat does not exist).
    2. Category:Church > Category:Church (building) and Category:Church (organization) (disambiguous).

I hope all of you guys are now able to follow the rules, so we don't have to update everything every year :P --OuWTBsjrief-mich 10:09, September 1, 2013 (UTC)

I am at least able to follow the rules, though I don't know how about next year's new users :o 4kant,6FRÅGOR??? 11:08, September 1, 2013 (UTC)
We need to set up a category course :o Quick guideline for using categories in Lovia, pocket edition :P --OuWTBsjrief-mich 11:38, September 1, 2013 (UTC)
I propose a category for wrongly categorised pages. All pages can be put straight in - the wrongly categorised ones because they're wrongly categorised, and the correctly categorised will need to be in the wrongly categorised category once they've been put into the wrongly categorised category, because being correctly categorised, the wrongly categorised category is the wrong category for them. :P --Semyon 11:52, September 1, 2013 (UTC)
And furthermore: when the correctly categorised pages become wrongly categorized through their addition to the wrongly categorised category, the wrongly categorised category will become the right category for them. So being now correctly categorised, the wrongly categorised category will be the wrong category for them. Hence why it's fine for them to be in it. --Semyon 11:57, September 1, 2013 (UTC)
But wouldn't that also require a bot-created "Category:Uncategorised categories based on correctness of categorization"? :o --OuWTBsjrief-mich 11:58, September 1, 2013 (UTC)
As long as it's put into the wrongly categorized category category, I don't mind. :P --Semyon 12:06, September 1, 2013 (UTC)
That was a typo, I actually meant to write wrongly categorised page category. A wrongly categorised category category might not be a bad idea though. --Semyon 12:07, September 1, 2013 (UTC)
Wouldn't that result in an infinite chain of wrongly categorised category categories? :o --OuWTBsjrief-mich 12:10, September 1, 2013 (UTC)
But, if a correctly categorised page is put into the wrongly categorised pages category, it'd become wrongly categorised and thus it'd belong in the wrongly categorised pages category, causing the page to be correctly categorised again and then we have a paradox :P 4kant,6FRÅGOR??? 12:14, September 1, 2013 (UTC)
Simple solution: include them in both categories, as to both categories the page belongs :o --OuWTBsjrief-mich 12:17, September 1, 2013 (UTC)
(two edc) @Oos: You have a problem with that? These categories are important for our nation's prosperity. Lovia's unemployment rate will drop to zero with the boom in the categorization industry. :o @4kant: I'm going to ignore your edit. It's too pointless for me. --Semyon 12:19, September 1, 2013 (UTC)
No, you found the solution to world-wide unemployment :o Everybody's gotta work in the Lovian categorization business! :P --OuWTBsjrief-mich 12:21, September 1, 2013 (UTC)
Some people will have to work in the Lovian contradiction solving business though :o 4kant,6FRÅGOR??? 12:24, September 1, 2013 (UTC)
That contradicts with the statements presented hereabove :o --OuWTBsjrief-mich 12:25, September 1, 2013 (UTC)

Those Little Things

Dear people of Lovia, may I thank you sincerely for all the support you’ve given me. Thank you for your love and devotion, I shall aim to repay this by doing my best. Today I want you to think about something that to your King means the world. I want you to think of how beautiful and green our country is, an how refreshing a walk in its nature can be. Think of a picnic with a lover in the park, a lazy afternoon at the water or a barbeque with family. These are the things that make life worthwhile, more so then building sites, megalomaniacal projects of reputation-driven politicians and local figureheads attempting to leave behind a legacy.

If you want to leave a legacy for all to enjoy, live your life happily and fruitfully. Do not leave the faucet running as you brush your teeth, take a walk when you’re able to do so rather then get out the car for the shortest of distances as some are prone to do. The beauty of Lovia that we see all around us, from the Palace Gardens to the Emeralds, and the wild highlands of Oceana. From the shores of Peace Island to the plains of Plains, my dear Lovians this beauty comes not for free. It comes with a price, and that price is personal responsibility. We all are responsible for the land we live in and therefore I, as your King, wish to make an appeal on you.

Focus a little bit more on your fellow man, on your surroundings, and a little less on yourself. Live for your family and your country, live for the future. And don’t stop to think of that future, as we make it together. What it will be like, we all decide together through the life we live. Through the actions we take, as much as through the actions we do not. When my daughter and my unborn child take their children to the countryside thirty years from now, what kind of a world will greet them? Will they hear the singing of birds, the laughter of children, butterflies and colourful leaves as far as the eye can reach? Will they see the traditional clothing of Oshenna’s proud people, hear Bredish being spoken, witness the marvellous sight of an early midsummer sunrise? It depends. It depends, on how you and me live our lives, on the choices we make.

I strongly believe it is our responsibility to think of these things, my dear countrymen, my dear fellow Lovians. Brothers and sisters we have seen so much being destroyed in the past years. Let us never destroy our heritage, forget our culture and values. Let us never forget what makes Lovia, Lovia. It is you, who made Lovia the beautiful nation it is today. And it is on our shoulders, the heavy task to see to it that Lovia stays the way it is: a nation green, a nation free, a nation for us all to enjoy. It is not fast cars and fancy mobile phones that ought to make us happy, it is the little things we so oft overlook. Let us sit back and think of those little things that make live enjoyable. And how to ensure they will be around for many generations to come.

May God bless you all, and may He bless Lovia, for truly she is a shining light for all nations to behold and the most beautiful of all the worlds nations! Naranja Naranja!

Yours truly,

:King Sebastian I of Lovia (talk) 14:56, September 1, 2013 (UTC)

The Hugo Mendes Show- Special Edition

Last night on The Hugo Mendes Show, Hugo met with King Sebastian. Sebastian and Hugo discussed everything from fashion to state councils and everything in between, as well as dropping a shocking bombshell about his relationship with former King Dimitri. Sebastian also took several questions from the public, in what was his first appearance on national television.

The show was taped in front of a live audience in Noble City, which included politician Justin Abrahams.

Broadcast on Saturday 1st September at 9pm on Kaboom 1

Mr. Mendes- Good evening Noble City, and welcome to The Hugo Mendes Show! Oh, and what a show we have in store for you tonight, as we meet with none other than King Sebastian himself! So, without further ado, may I present His Majesty King Sebastian!

(Sebastian enters to a musical accompaniment by the band)

Sebastian- Hello Mr. Mendes! How are you doing today?

Mr. Mendes- Very well thank you! How are you?

Sebastian- Excellent! My wife and I are expecting our second child in a few months and I just gave another speech. Also, being a King is an excellent job and I am greatly enjoying it. You wanted to ask me some questions, I understand?

Mr. Mendes- I most certainly do! Congratulations to you and your wife, by the way, you must be thrilled!

Sebastian- Why thank you! Ask ahead, my good man, I'm all ears!

Mr. Mendes- I understand you had a somewhat difficult childhood, with your father being killed in a tragic accident and your mother suffering from depression. What was your childhood like?

Sebastian- My childhood was indeed a bit difficult, though my mother did an excellent job raising me. In my father's absence, I came to regard my great-uncle Arthur as a bit of a father figure. He took me under his wing and showed me the ropes of how to be a king, so to speak. I believe he even initially intended me to be his heir, rather then Dimitri. His stories and experiences have been instrumental in forming my idea on what a King should be like, and I regard him as an example still. You can say my childhood was, for the most part, happy.

Mr. Mendes- Very interesting! And do you have a good relationship with Dimitri now, despite what has happened between you?

Sebastian- My cousin and I never got along very well. We were once rather close as we all visited the old King Arthur often, but there was always a bit of rivalry between the two of us. Our personalities are very different, we have a different set or morals and viewpoints and often clashed. In later years we have grown closer and marriage mellowed him down, but I never forgave him for his attitude in the Civil War where he cowardly hid as I fought for my country.

Mr. Mendes- It's good to hear your side of the story, Sebastian! Now for some questions about your daughter, Alice

Sebastian- Most certainly!

Mr. Mendes- In many royal households, much of the parenting is left to an army of nannies and governesses. Is this something that goes on in your household, or are you and your wife very hands on parents?

Sebastian- I try to be a hands on parent, yes, but to my shame I have to admit my wife is more involved in raising her then I am. We do have housekeepers to do our household chores though, and I rarely changed a diaper. I'm furthermore unable to cook without burning down the house, but I often read my daughter stories at night, and stimulate her natural curiosity. Fatherhood is the greatest joy of my life and we intend to raise a large family.

Mr. Mendes- Certainly! As I have a daughter of my own, I agree with that! Alice is approaching school age, do you plan to educate her in the palace or will you be sending her to a mainstream school?

Sebastian- I believe it to be of vital importance to send her into a mainstream school no matter what. To raise a child too sheltered has a negative influence on her development in social aspects, I fear. We are undecided on the school, however I have a firm trust in the Lovian educational system.

Mr. Mendes- Yes, I've heard there are some good schools in your area of Noble City! Now, may I ask some more serious questions?

Sebastian- You may! I'm all ears!

Mr. Mendes- You've said many times that you will be a more active King than Prince Dimitri was? So, my question to you, how will you go about engaging with the "modern Lovian"?

Sebastian- The modern Lovian will not be much of a problem for me, as I am myself a fine example of the modern Lovian. I was born in the late 1980s and I am as modern as they come. I believe it to be important to take the people seriously and talk to them plainly, and eye to eye. In my latest speech you may have noticed I appeal to the people's natural sense of responsibility. This I believe to be of vital importance.

Mr. Mendes- Of course!

Sebastian- Citizens, in my view, wish to be taken seriously. Under Dimitri they were not listened to, their questions went unanswered. I wish to make myself more available. I live to serve, and see myself as a public servant

Mr. Mendes- And will you be holding frequent meetings with Prime Minister Ilava and other senior members of government?

Sebastian- I am a close friend of Mr. Ilava and a firm supporter of his Oceana cause. I believe in the preservation of traditional languages, customs and traditions and have often worked towards protecting these values. Therefore me and Ilava get along famously. I am also close to the Baron of Donia and to that splendid Japanese fellow of the Green Party whose name escapes me. With these people I get along well. Every Sunday after church, I have a habit of sharing a cold beer with the Prime Minister either at his family place or at mine. There we talk of state affairs as well as our family lives. He gives me advice sometimes as he is a father to seven children.

Mr. Mendes- It's great to see that you and Mr Ilava share a personal connection as well as a professional one! One of the issues most important to the Lovian electorate is devolution, and many politicians from across the spectrum have supported the formation of state councils. Where do you stand on this issue?

Sebastian- I believe it is very important to allow states their own freedom of choice in several important matters. To relay responsibility down to state level and grant states such freedom I think is something we should consider. State councils would be, in my mind, a good first step towards more stately autonomy. Especially in Oceana this is of great importance.

Mr. Mendes- It's very good that you have a strong love for the people and culture of Oceana, but do you find that this often stops you from relating with Lovians from other states?

Sebastian- It does not, as I was born and raised in the state of Sylvania myself. Therefore my loyalty lies with Sylvania just as much as it does with Oceana and any other state for that matter. For example, I speak several local dialects and languages of other states including Bredish.

Mr. Mendes- Do you have anything to say in Bredish for our Clymeni viewers?

Sebastian- I'd tell them to remember: "Alle man sin boaren vry an elyk in digniti-aguz-rexts", they'll know what it means!

Mr. Mendes- Very good Your Majesty! I myself cannot speak Bredish, but I admire your willingness to learn

Sebastian- It means we are all equal, and brothers and sisters! I believe we should all live in such a spirit of brotherhood, as Lovians.

Mr. Mendes- Now for a question regarding gay rights, another issue that is important to many voters!

Sebastian- Most certainly! Ask me!

Mr. Mendes- One of your close friends, Ygo August Donia, has been known for making homophobic remarks on occasion. Where do you stand on gay rights, and do you believe that as King it is your duty to encourage equality and tolerance?

Sebastian- I am actually a big supporter of the rights of gay people to be who they wish to be, and believe this to be a vital right of all Lovians. I do however also defend the right of religious people or conservatives to hold different ideas. Ilava and Donia, as Christians, may feel differently about homosexuality then I do. But as long as we all treat each other with dignity and respect, in spite of our individual differences, I believe we can all get along in this nation without much trouble.

Mr. Mendes- So you would say that you can relate to people both for and against gay rights?

Sebastian- I could, yes. In as much that, I myself may support gay rights but I will support the right of those against it to continue to voice their opinion whenever they please, as long as they do so in a respectful manner.

Mr. Mendes- So! Now that we've got all the serious political stuff out the way, it's time for my favourite segment of the show!

Sebastian- Sounds fun!

Mr. Mendes- Thanks to the rise of social media, hundreds of Lovians have tweeted us questions that they wish for me to ask you, and I will now ask you the three best questions

Sebastian- Shoot, Lovia! Give me your best!

Mr. Mendes- Now, this question comes from Annabel from Sofasi, Clymene- Does His Majesty have a royal stylist, or do you choose your clothes yourself?

Sebastian- My cousin Alexander is a very stylish young man and he helps me pick out clothes sometimes. Other then that, you can pretty much say my wife's my personal sylist. She is one helluva classy woman, Annabel! If you ever need a fashion tip, just give our Queen a call.

Mr. Mendes- Well I agree with you there!

Sebastian- Good to hear Hugo!

Mr. Mendes- Our second question is coming from Louis from Charleston, Sylvania- Do you like the Royal Palace as it is, or will you be undertaking some home improvement projects?

Sebastian- I like the Royal Palace the way it is now, Louis! But as I believe in modest living, the wife and I consider opening a part of the Palace to the public. We believe the Royal Palace is, in a way, public property and should be open to all Lovians. Tourists might be interested in seeing the old study room of my great-uncle for example, or his old hunting trophies from Africa. The palace is in marvelous shape and you yourself will be more then welcome to drop by in some months, Louis!

Mr. Mendes- Well, I know I can speak for many Lovians when I say that the palace would make a great tourist attraction!

Sebastian- I thought so too, and what's mine is yours my friends!

Mr. Mendes- Unfortunately, it is now time for our final question from the public.

Sebastian- Oh, how sad Well, let me hear it! Time flies when having fun, Hugo!

Mr. Mendes- This question is coming from Claire in Beaverwick, Kings- So Sebastian, will you be undertaking any royal trips abroad to promote the culture of Lovia?

Sebastian- That's a marvelous queston Claire! And yes, I will. In the spirit of the great Arthur III, I will travel the world and promote Lovian culture. My brother Joseph and cousin Alexander already frequently do so, albeit it with mixed results on wild Alex' part. I myself love spending time in Brunant and am a good friend of their royals. My sister is engaged to be married to their prince Karl, and will wed later this year. I will soon go there again.

Mr. Mendes- Well, congratulations to her then! Now, unfortunately it is time to say goodbye to Sebastian, dearest viewers. But first, to play us out- The Hugo Mendes Band!

(The band plays theme tune)

Sebastian- Goodbye, Hugo, goodbye dear viewers! You were wonderful!

(Sebastian watches band and claps enthusiastically, end credits begin to roll)

So guys, the first edition of my new show and Sebastian's first television interview! Feel free to comment below any thoughts you have on the show. You can also tell me if there are any other Lovian personalities you would like to see on future episodes :D Frijoles333 / Marcel Cebara (talk) 17:34, September 1, 2013 (UTC)

This has been one fine interview, Frijoles! You really have a talent for this. Did you come up with the questions as you went, or did you prepare some up front? It's been an interesting conversation and the audience now knows their King a lot better then before. I even believe even that, dare I say, it, Lovia already knows me better now in one week then it's known my predecessor in five years. That was Brabantish (or whatever that's called in English), not Limburgish! :o 4kant,6FRÅGOR??? 13:31, September 2, 2013 (UTC)
Brabantic*. I usually check all useless edits :o @4kant: depends on the pronunciation, I guess. As semyon said he did not pronounce it, it could be either :o --OuWTBsjrief-mich 13:36, September 2, 2013 (UTC)
I recall Oos saying it once so I assumed it was Limburgish. @pronunciation: I sort of thought of it in my head as /gədaʊn/ but it's likely not. :P --Semyon 20:26, September 4, 2013 (UTC)
No, it's not :P In Montfortian Limburgish it's /(ɣ)ə'd̺ɒ́:n̺/ (much like: ghə-DAWN). Brabantian does not have tones, "ao" is less rounded, and I believe it does not pronounce d's the British way, so: /ɣ'dɒ̜̀:n/? :P --OuWTBsjrief-mich 07:21, September 5, 2013 (UTC)
Anyway, isn't it spelt "gedoan" in Broabants? :o --OuWTBsjrief-mich 10:01, September 5, 2013 (UTC)
Eh, I'm not that good at spelling Babantic to be honest :P They've never taught me :P 4kant,6FRÅGOR??? 13:50, September 5, 2013 (UTC)

@Ashamed: they should be ashamed of being ashamed of that :P 4kant,6FRÅGOR??? 16:25, September 5, 2013 (UTC)
Ah, I'd forgotten g is a fricative in Dutch. It would have been a reasonable assumption that it was in Limburgish too. :P --Semyon 17:53, September 5, 2013 (UTC)
@Language: I like that you call it a dialect yourself :P
@Ashamed: :o
@Semyon: Yeah, in Limburgish it's often a stop though :P F.e. Dutch "zeggen" /zɛʁə/ vs. Limburgish "zègke" /zége/; and in some dialects it's usually either a stop /gə'd̺ɒ́:n̺/ or a palatal approximant /jə'd̺ɔ̀ŋ/. We're difficult :P --OuWTBsjrief-mich 18:28, September 5, 2013 (UTC)

Hey Frijoles, do you think you could make a similar show in Brunant for BBN? We have no talk shows there yet and it would fit in nicely, I think. HORTON11: InboxFollow me! 16:27, September 6, 2013 (UTC)

Of course! Could BBN also air two Lovian shows that I've just made? Frijoles333 / Marcel Cebara (talk) 17:15, September 6, 2013 (UTC)

You are going places man! Getting famous over here :P How late's this new thing going to air? Cannot wait. King Sebastian I of Lovia (talk) 17:31, September 6, 2013 (UTC)
Sure. If they're in English they can air on BBN 2 or 3, depending on the program. HORTON11: InboxFollow me! 19:19, September 6, 2013 (UTC)
@Horton: Yes, both in English. The shows are a crime drama and a comedy Frijoles333 / Marcel Cebara (talk) 20:01, September 6, 2013 (UTC)
Well the crime drama could go on BBN 3 and the comedy on 2. HORTON11: InboxFollow me! 14:40, September 7, 2013 (UTC)

@Sebastian & TimeMaster: Cheers! It'll be going up at about 8pm UK time Frijoles333 / Marcel Cebara (talk) 17:51, September 6, 2013 (UTC)

BBN

I've been working on the BBN page in Brunant (for those who don't know it's the public TV\radio broadcaster) and that got me thinking, maybe we should make one in Lovia. Lovian media needs to be promoted and revitalized, and having a service like the BBC or RTE could help that. HORTON11: InboxFollow me! 16:24, September 6, 2013 (UTC)

Great idea! Maybe we could also have a radio network similar to BBN or BBC radio Frijoles333 / Marcel Cebara (talk) 17:16, September 6, 2013 (UTC)

Well, to date, Oceana Broadcasting System's been the most successful non-newspaper media, so we really need this! :) --OuWTBsjrief-mich 17:39, September 6, 2013 (UTC)

We've also got Kaboom TV, People's Channel, ZAM TV and Lovian Television Company Frijoles333 / Marcel Cebara (talk) 17:44, September 6, 2013 (UTC)

We also have Alphabet TV, but none are really active (ex. kaboom) and there is really no new Lovian programs. On BBN we have shows from Cold War dramas to comedy and police shows, and all recent. That's something we should work on. If we could replicate OBS on a national level, it might be a good solution. We can also replicate BBN in regards to the multi-lingual channels, for example having an English and Oceana or English and Multilingual (like BBN 2). HORTON11: InboxFollow me! 19:23, September 6, 2013 (UTC)

I've been working on a few new shows with Kaboom Frijoles333 / Marcel Cebara (talk) 20:00, September 6, 2013 (UTC)

Personally the success with Kaboom's revival shows that we don't need a government tv broadcaster. Frijoles independent push has really shown that we have the good broadcasters but what we really need is (as Horton said) for Lovian media to be promoted. Instead of throwing loads of money into changing things on a purely structural basis, we should make concerted efforts to ensure that it is easy to access Lovian media sources on the site. A link on the sidebar to a page linking to Lovian media outlets may be just the thing. Hoffmann LogoCNP2wt KunarianTALK 20:12, September 6, 2013 (UTC)

Well I could use that same argument for the opposite. Just because there's only one active broadcaster, we should start one to actually help boost our contemporary TV and radio. There's no reason whay we can't have both private and a public broadcaster. HORTON11: InboxFollow me! 14:39, September 7, 2013 (UTC)
Your argument is completely wrong, costs is a very good reason. There's no point in having a public broadcaster when we have a rebooting broadcasting sector. Government is largely about fixing problems and making provisions to make life better, its primary reason is not spending money. The problem here is that there is not enough exposure. Adding a way, such as a page that linked to all Lovian media, to easily access Lovian media would greatly increase activity in the entire sector. Your suggestion of having a new broadcaster (that will yet have to be provided for by yet another user) will end like most of the other public initiatives by government into economic sectors, in inactivity. That is something we should avoid by allowing a fluid sector and providing assistance in the form of government assisted exposure. Hoffmann LogoCNP2wt KunarianTALK 14:50, September 7, 2013 (UTC)
A Lovian media page would be good, agreed. But if nobody is sprucing up the current broadcaster pages and adding shows, I don't really see that changing. And one interesting thing, when BBN was started, we have several users contributing to the programming, organization etc and there was lots of interest. I wouldn't mind the government supporting the private broadcaster, but as long as the people have an interest in the organization. HORTON11: InboxFollow me! 14:58, September 7, 2013 (UTC)

I agree! Perhaps we should have a "Lovian media page" with links to TV stations and newspapers. As you said we could have links on sidebars of pages. Well done on your work in the media with the Lovian Times by the way. My Lovian newspaper of choice! Frijoles333 / Marcel Cebara (talk) 06:32, September 7, 2013 (UTC)

Thank you very much! I think that's a great idea and should I have time I might start drafting such a page very soon. Hoffmann LogoCNP2wt KunarianTALK 14:50, September 7, 2013 (UTC)

The Hugo Mendes Show- 6th September

A quick out of character disclaimer

Just thought I should provide this disclaimer before we get started. The questions in this interview were NOT answered by DimiTalen, but another user instead. As an interviewer, I have done everything I can to ensure this interview is fair towards Dimitri, and I have given him equal treatment with Sebastian.

The opinions presented here don't nescesarily represent my views on this whole monarchy thing, it's just a bit of fun!

They also do not represent the views of DimiTalen, unless by coincidence.

I am also not trying to do anything negative to DimiTalen, or Dimitri. He is a good man without whom I would not be talking to any of you.

I greatly respect Dimitri (both the user and the character!) as he is a good guy and was the one who founded this wiki, just as I respect Sebastian.

Now for the interview!!!

- Frijoles333 / Marcel Cebara (talk) 19:42, September 6, 2013 (UTC)

The interview itself

Brought to you by Kaboom TV

The show was taped on Thursday 5th September in Noble City, and was broadcast on Friday 6th September at 9pm on Kaboom 1

Mr. Mendes- Good evening Noble City! This is Hugo Mendes, and I'd like to welcome you to tonight's show. I'll be chatting to Prince Dimitri, as he shares his side of the story regarding the recent events within the royal family. So without further ado, may I represent Prince Dimitri.

(Dimitri enters the stage to a musical accompaniment by the band)

Mr. Mendes- Good evening Dimitri! How are you?

Dimitri- I have had better days, Hugo. Sleepless night this situation has given me.

(Dimitri touches his forehead)

Mr. Mendes- So now that you have left the Royal Palace, where do you live?

Dimitri- I live with my wife's brother and his boyfriend. It is not an ideal situation... we have little space to ourselves and no privacy. My brother Alexander offered me to crash at his place but I refused, I want to stay clear of his wild partying ways. I have surprisingly little options. Friends I used to hold dear to me abandoned me. Now I am no longer King I feel how lonely I have been all these years. Now it is just me and my wife. But we get by.

(An audience member interrupts, shouting "WE WANT DIMITRI BACK!")

(The audience member is promptly removed by security personnel)

Mr. Mendes- Sorry about that folks! Let us continue proceedings!

Dimitri (To audience member)- Oh my dear fool! You speaks these words so lightly!

Mr. Mendes- Anyway, Dimitri

Dimitri- Yes, let us

Mr. Mendes- Do you get on well with Alexander and his boyfriend?

Dimitri- Alexander does not have a boyfriend Hugo! My wife's brother does. My own brother's a lady's man through and through.

Mr. Mendes- Apologies, I misunderstood

Dimitri- He is a man of loose contacts, married to his bottle and guitar so I do not see much of the boy. No offense taken, I could have expressed myself better.

Mr. Mendes- Now for the big question, the one that we, the Lovian public want you to answer

Dimitri- I am prepared to answer every question I need to make the truth be known.

Mr. Mendes- You may have seen my interview last week with Sebastian. What were your first impressions?

Dimitri- That he is a liar! And that he does not understand the gravity of his lies, nor their impact. He blabbers on and on, he speaks much but thinks little. He's always wanted to be King just for the prestige of it. He knows nothing of sacrifice. I gave my entire life and youth for this nation. And just because he killed people in an absurd war, he feels he is more of a man then me? He has belittled me ever since I was a boy... and even after I give him what he wants most, he belittles me.

Mr. Mendes- And how would you defend the stance you took during the devastating Civil War?

Dimitri- All he did there was smirk, smile, laugh at his own amazingness and rub more salt in the wound he himself gave me with a smile as wide as Peace Island! I can defend it by saying I did what was best for my nation. What use is a dead or wounded king? And I have no military experience. I abhor weapons and hunting, and the sight of blood disgusts and startles me. Am I less a man for it, just because my nature is softer then his?

Mr. Mendes- That certainly doesn't make you any less of a man, Dimitri! You may have also heard in our nation's press about how Sebastian describes his relationship with you. How do you react to that?

Dimitri- He was right, in a way. We never liked each other. But when he said Arthur liked him best, he was lying. That was never the case. Arthur was a scholar, as am I. He was an intellectual. Sure he had his fair share of adventures but he was a scholar first and foremost, not a soldier. When I saw him tell these lies with a straight face I had a hard time controlling myself. I felt the strong urge to change channels to not have to see this slander, but my wife convinced me to stay tuned and record it. I am now grateful for that.

Mr. Mendes- A good answer! And a good metaphor! On my show we like a man who can use a good metaphor. And now I will follow by using a metaphor of my own in our next question. The fracture that you and Sebastian created in Lovia’s royal family, do you plan to let it heal or make the metaphorical fracture even wider?

Dimitri- I had intended to not dignify his lies with a response, but I find myself unable to let it slide. I have let too much slide over the course of these years. This man is a shame to the family. Now he has plotted against me, schemed against me, and set up my own relatives against me. My own flesh and blood! I can never let this heal... the wounds go too deep. He has insulted my pride, ruined my life. Sebastian has struck my heart with a icecold blade. Hacking away at my reputation, step by step. I believe him to have orchestrated the October coup too, behind the scenes. He is very close with the Donia Clan after all.

Mr. Mendes- And what is your view of the Donia Clan?

Dimitri- They are treacherous rats, all of them! They have no morals, they have no compassion, no honour. They are not true Lovians. Communists in name only, capitalists in everything else. Fake Christians masquerading behind a carefully cultivated image of piousness. Fake as plastic, and when they burn they smell just as bad. They are worth less then the dirt under a true Noble's shoes.

Mr. Mendes- Having seen a Donia infriltrate the Brunanter royal family, do you fear the same will happen to the Lovian royal family?

Dimitri- I sometimes did, yes. I was afraid for a while Dalia Muhammed, the widow of the previous Baron and the mother of Ygo, would make her daughter seduce Sebastian or one of the Bradly-Lashawns and use them as her pawns. They also did the same with Donia's former rival Pierlot McCrooke you see. Then it came to my ears, Dalia Donia's expecting her third child. So she unlikely to wiggle her way into our family now. And even Sebastian won't sink low enough to leave his pregnant wife for her. When McCrooke did that, it cost him dearly in the public opinion. Sebastian is too smart to make such a mistake. The Bradly-Lashawns and the Donia's are... dangerously close however. I watch their every move carefully, I have my people on their backs. But there is little I can do. They are too close for my taste. You may call me paranoid but these are real threats to Lovia I speak of. One day people will see I am right. I hope it won't be too late.

Mr. Mendes- What do you think the future has in store for Lovia? And how is the Lovia of today different from the one you inherited six years ago?

Dimitri- The future is grim, very grim. There's a dim light shining through the vast darkness surrounding us. A small, dim light at best to enlighten us. Lovia as I see it is corrupt. It has been morally corrupted. Education is not what it used to be, The religious have gotten too much freedom, their numbers have grown and the numbers of atheist have shrunk. That is the main difference between the Lovia I once inherited... the Lovia I was born in was a Lovia dominated by atheism and freethinking. The CCPL, the Donia's, Ilava and the rise of conservatism and fascism have not gone unnoticed. The nation I fell in love with changed forever. I do not recognize it anymore. The events of the last few years have made me a bitter and cynical man. Maybe I should not have children, to prevent them the pain I have to endure every day of living in these cursed lands.

(Dimitri touches his forehead with his palms in a dramatic gesture, looks straight into the camera)

Dimitri- A cursed land, I tell you! And here I walk a lonely and cursed man. I foresee dark times coming for us. Now for the first time ever, I fully understand how my dear uncle Lucas must have felt.

Mr. Mendes- As a freethough athiest, your ideology clashes with that of the Prime Minister. How did you and Mr Ilava work together in your final days as King, and how did you overcome your differences?

Dimitri- We didn't. I simply never spoke to that man. He is a nice enough guy but I lost all interest in politics. They made it impossible for me. They, the cabal theorists, McCrooke, Donia, La Blaca, Koshkov... the war, the war! How could I be in politics? I could do nothing! They made it impossible. They did it. The cabal theorists. Their slander...

(Dimitri turns red and becomes upset, before quickly regaining himself)

Dimitri- You may think I am crazy. Maybe I am. I was too young, Hugo, I was just too young to be King. Arthur was wrong. They were all wrong. It should not have been me, nor Sebastian. It should have been Philip. I was too young... I cannot do this. I'm an emotional wreck now. You cannot make a boy King, at such an age. I should have played, I should have laughed, I should have been a child, a student. But they never let me. Yes... yes that is a good idea. They took my childhood from me Hugo! They took everything from me.

'Mr. Mendes- You have time Dimitri, you have a long life ahead of you!

(Hugo turns to audience)

Mr. Mendes- Okay, we'll go to commercial now!

(The commercial break begins, as Hugo begins to comfort Dimitri)

(The commercial break ends)

Mr. Mendes- Welcome back to the Hugo Mendes Show! Tonight we're talking to Prince Dimitri, as he tells his side of the story. Dimitri, why don't you and your wife take a nice long holiday! You deserve a rest

Dimitri- I need a vacation, yes. Far away. From this cursed land.

Mr. Mendes- See the world! Live while you're young! Enjoy the freedom!

Dimitri- I will try. There's a time for everything. I need my time. I have some unresolved issues. For now I will stick around Lovia. These following days and weeks may become very interesting. Thank you for your concern. I hope I answered your questions well.

Mr. Mendes- Unfortunately it is now time for the final segment of our show!

Dimitri- Sure! I'm ready for it

Mr. Mendes- Dimitri, are you prepared to take some questions from the Lovian public?

Dimitri- Yes, I am.

Mr. Mendes- Our first question comes from Jane in Kinley, Seven- What do you plan to make of your life now Dimitri? Is there a career path you would like to follow?

Dimitri- I want to focus on my studies, reading, writing. Me and my wife wish to be left to ourselves, and we consider traveling the world. We have always been fascinated by South America. A nice retreat on the Copacabana perhaps. We need our rest after all this. Thank you for your question Jane!

Mr. Mendes- Ah, I've always been fascinated by that continent myself! Perhaps you could take Spanish lessons? Now, our final question....

Dimitri- I already took some, senor! Marvelous idea. Certainly, ask me.

(Dimitri pronounces "senor" wrong)

Mr. Mendes- Now time for a question from Dan, in Hurbanova, Oceana- Do you feel that you will ever forgive Sebastian?

Dimitri- In this answer I can short: no. The wounds are too deep, the damage cannot be undone. What's done is done.

Mr. Mendes- And now, dear viewers, dear Dimitri, it is time to bid farewell until next time.... But before we go, the Hugo Mendes Band will play a song of Dimitri's choosing!!! Dimitri- The Ode to Joy always soothes my spirit whenever I am down...

Mr. Mendes- Excellent! Ode to Joy it is then...

(Hugo turns to the audience)

Mr. Mendes- Good night Lovia! This has been Hugo Mendes and goodbye for now!

(End credits roll, as Dimitri and Hugo clap the band)

Sorry that I clogged up the whole Pub with this, feel free to provide any feedback, comments or thoughts. It's all very welcome indeed :D Frijoles333 / Marcel Cebara (talk) 19:42, September 6, 2013 (UTC)

This is great and I really think that this is a route forwards for Lovian television, well done. Expect Newspaper responses soon. :) Hoffmann LogoCNP2wt KunarianTALK 20:13, September 6, 2013 (UTC)

This doesn't sound like DimiTalen at all. Was this discussion on the chat, or just made up? Which user were you chatting with? Why did you do it at an inconvenient time for USA users (12-3pm on a weekday)? TimeMaster (talkcontribs) 20:10, September 6, 2013 (UTC)

Tbf he said in the disclaimer it wasn't Dimitri. I watched bits of it, but it didn't have a live audience apart from me. I believe the intention was to make it when there weren't other users around to interrupt. --Semyon 20:22, September 6, 2013 (UTC)

@Kunarian: Thank you very much, I appreciate your feedback :D

@TimeMaster: As Semyon and my disclaimer (which I did write for a reason!) said is that this wasn't DimiTalen answering the questions. The questions were answered by another user, who has requested that their name not be disclosed. Regarding the timings, I live in London so if I was to conduct the interview at a time convenient for American viewers, I would probably find myself doing this in the middle of night. Additionally most users (Kunarian, Semyon, Horton, Wabba, Happy, Oos, TMV and many more) live in Europe so it is convenient for them :P Frijoles333 / Marcel Cebara (talk) 20:29, September 6, 2013 (UTC)

Since this isn't DimiTalen, I don't recognize this as a valid interview with Dimitri. The fact that they did not want their name to be disclosed is silly and only makes this extremely suspicious. Anyway, I just realized that I'm basically the only active US user left (maybe topaz and viva... but I'm not even sure they live here). :O TimeMaster (talkcontribs) 12:36, September 7, 2013 (UTC)

Topaz doesn't live in the US. You forgot Marcus though, he's still active. --Semyon 12:39, September 7, 2013 (UTC)

Yes, I realise that it was an inconvenient time for you & Marcus, but I would have been up at like 2am if I had to do this at a time convenient for users in the USA. You can still read it later on though :) Frijoles333 / Marcel Cebara (talk) 13:50, September 7, 2013 (UTC)

I was thinking more like 5pm or 6pm here (east coast), which is 10pm or 11pm in the UK. But I was gone the whole evening, so it ended up not mattering. TimeMaster (talkcontribs) 14:16, September 7, 2013 (UTC)

Also, I don't consider Marcus to be active. TimeMaster (talkcontribs) 14:16, September 7, 2013 (UTC)

You consider Viva to be active but not Marcus? :O Anyway, Marcus edited yesterday, and the day before and the day before that, and he's made well over a hundred edits in the last month, so imo you're talking nonsense. :P --Semyon 14:21, September 7, 2013 (UTC)

I don't consider Viva active, actually, I just saw one of his edits recently. Anyway, Marcus didn't edit yesterday, only the day before that. :P TimeMaster (talkcontribs) 17:40, September 7, 2013 (UTC)

@TimeMaster: Well, I suppose I could do it at that time, I thought you wanted it at 9pm East coast time. Also, how isn't Marcus active? Yes, he's been away for a few days, but everyone takes a wikibreak now and then due to other commitments Frijoles333 / Marcel Cebara (talk) 14:30, September 7, 2013 (UTC)

He's not taking a Wikibreak, it's been a gradual decrease in activity... about since you joined, actually. :O TimeMaster (talkcontribs) 17:40, September 7, 2013 (UTC)

It looks like Marcus is back now, so this is no longer important. x) TimeMaster (talkcontribs) 17:43, September 7, 2013 (UTC)

@TimeMaster: with Dimitri dethroned and retired from the wiki, this is official an interview as you'll ever get from him. And it does, in many ways, indeed reflect his views quite accurately as he himself would attest.
@Frijoles: Wonderful interview, well done! This is the type of intrigue and scandal this nation needs. The type of interview that can write history. From what I read here, I am certain it has. Pretty interesting developments. I wonder if we can expect some sort of... follow-up to this? Seems like there's some clashes within our royal family. Sad

I'm thinking of reviving or starting a French wikination and was wondering, would anyone be interested? HORTON11: InboxFollow me! 16:32, September 11, 2013 (UTC)

Well I don't like it very much, but I'm good at it. Plus I have a map already. HORTON11: InboxFollow me! 16:39, September 11, 2013 (UTC)
Yes, Horton, we could go to the French wikination. We could write in French, make fancy maps, eat croissants and watch Brigitte Bardot films. I can be your Carla Bruni, you'll be Jacques Clouseau. Or... we just stay in Lovia and make the best of our time here. Activity's up, elections are coming and we finally have a proper monarchy again. We're going places, we're making this awesome country even awesomer by the day. Why sacrifice even a single minute of your time on a project you know just as well as I do will fail within a month (if you're lucky, that is) instead of spending it here in Lovia, where the magic happens? @King- I know, but then again, I have lots of ideas that wouldn't work in Lovia. Sadly we're lacking in mediterranean sun and culture. HORTON11: InboxFollow me! 16:58, September 11, 2013 (UTC)

So is that why you created Brunant? Frijoles333 / Marcel Cebara (talk) 16:59, September 11, 2013 (UTC)

Yes. If Lovia had been a European nation with good history, Brunant would not have existed. And with the French site I do want to work out a few things like, fashion, culture, a bit of football and cuisine. HORTON11: InboxFollow me! 17:09, September 11, 2013 (UTC)

@Frijoles: I can give multiple reasons: 1. The spelling is uselessly complicated; 2. Everybody pretends to love the "sound" of French, while it's nothing more than a few ugly nasal sounds and uvular fricatives (which in all other languages are called "vomiting" sounds :P); 3. French people are overly proud of their language, to such degree that beautiful regional languages, even outside of Europe, are suppressed to extinction; and lots of other reasons. Understand my point now? :P --OuWTBsjrief-mich 17:01, September 11, 2013 (UTC)

Poll

Again, I might be making a successor to good ol' Positive Lovia. In a nutshell, the new party will advocate pragmatic libertarianism, and naturally will be opposed to statism, socialism and corporatocracy.

Christopher Costello (PikapiChatWhat's up) 01:01, September 14, 2013 (UTC)

I voted other, mainly because I like the current name more than the other names. "Positive Lovia" is a very noticeable name, really standing out from the other names which usually take the "(-ism) (-ism) Party" rhythm. Also, as I said before, Lovians tend to rename stuff way too often, that's why I keep CCPL, even though we are "too leftist" for American understandings of conservative. --OuWTBsjrief-mich 06:57, September 14, 2013 (UTC)

Free Lovia Party, or is that too aggressive? Free soil, free speech, free labor and free men. Smile Limba (So that is 'other', once again not being able to register my vote) Regaliorum (S Kitana) 08:17, September 14, 2013 (UTC)

I also agree with Oos. TimeMaster (talkcontribs) 18:33, September 14, 2013 (UTC)
Positive Lovia always did have a nice ring to it, problem is that I don't know how much it gets the point across. I enjoy any excuse for not having "party" in the title, yet the word "positive" seems uncharacteristically idealist. Progressive Libertarian had some appeal to me because I could still call it the PL, and it would be a very clear successor to the original, just with a more professional flavor to it. Libertarian Party is very straight to the point, and Civilist Party would be original, problem is its a little odd to say ("We're the Civilist Party!"), not to mention its a term I conjured up a couple days ago (and almost screams weird third option on any ballot). Free Lovia Party, would definitely get the point across, it just seems a tad generic. I could go with any of the suggestions at this point, maybe even keep PL, I just need a little more deciding time. Thanks for the input! :) Christopher Costello (PikapiChatWhat's up) 20:28, September 14, 2013 (UTC)

A kingly tale

The Tale Of The Drunk Shepherd

There once was a shepherd who was too lazy to work. He would always get drunk and sleep under the old oak tree, and hardly ever watched his herd. One day he woke up and he noticed his sheep were all gone. So the shepherd went looking for his sheep. Everywhere he looked. In his house, in his brother’s backyard. In his girlfriend’s closet. At the cinema.

No matter where looked he could not find his herd back. So one day he went to pray. He asked: “Please, dear God, give me back my sheep”. But he did not get back his sheep. The shepherd went back to his tree and brought with him a six-pack. Much to his considerable dismay, upon finishing the beverage he was still a sheepless man.

So the shepherd started looking for his sheep again, in the middle of the night, because he was persistent. He yelled: “Sheep! Sheep!” and then he tripped over something woolly. As he fell to the ground, he heard a familiar and rather distinctive “beh” sound. “What the devil...” he mumbled, getting up. So he took five steps backwards, and heard the same noise again. When the shepherd opened his cell phone, which had a light-function, he saw that he was standing in the middle of a field of sheep. He promised his sheep not to drink during work hours anymore. They were unimpressed. Obviously after his past neglect, they were a bit sceptical. “What if I buy you guys pizza?” he pleaded, at his wit’s end. Begrudgingly, they agree. The whole crew all went back to his oak tree and lived happily ever after. They started from the bottom, now his whole team here.

The end.

King Sebastian I of Lovia (talk) 20:49, September 14, 2013 (UTC)
What is it with morality and shepherds? Even the thrown-in cell phone can't hide the archaic motif. I would have preferred a fable, old-style form but with a refreshing message. Something like 'How the raven attempted to deny the throne to the hare on grounds of his past involvement with giraffes, but utterly failed due to the country's firm believe in second chances and personal growth'. Smile Limba Regaliorum (S Kitana) 07:18, September 15, 2013 (UTC)
I just remembered The Raven and the Mockingbird - a republican rhyme that recants the rule of royalty. Maybe the opposition to the crown would like to adopt dear lady Mockingbird as a symbol? Regaliorum (S Kitana) 07:26, September 15, 2013 (UTC)

Villanova for Clymene

In the coming months we will see what the best Clymeni politicians have to offer. I hope the Clymene people know what i'm about and what I can do for the people of my favorite and most diverse and amazing state in all of Lovia. I've always stayed true to my word and have been loyal and true to Clymene, keeping its integrity strong. I always had a simple message of "What's best for the middle class, what's best for the working class, is best for the whole of society" and will always benefit our economy and socio-economic structure. With so much work to be done I can promise five basic plans for Clymene.

  • The state has been a tad inactive politics wise and we must change this. Point one of my plan means State Law will be re-introduced and give the people devolution, power and the right to have their voices heard.
  • The state needs a body to have the people heard. A thirty member body will be erected and totally controlled by the people. It will include: 20 members elected from single seat districts. 8 more from districts themselves, and two more being Governor and the deputy. This way the rural peoples will be represented in some fashion and not be over crowded by the more urban people from Adoha and Sofasi.
  • Transportation overhaul. Clymene has a broken down, un-analytical, and confusing transportation system. Under my watch I'll make sure the government can fix this and make sure that even in the most rural of areas the Clymeni people will have cheap, active and great service in the form of green busing. Trains running more frequently, and a ferry system so Seveners can come to and fro, working and building in our great state.
  • Healthcare for all citizens. A comprehensive healthcare system which will be state ran and free to all citizens. Each village or above with some form of a hospital or check-up center that will allow citizens to be healthy but also let medical students straight out of college to know we are hiring and want the best and brightest in Lovia and the world.
  • Education for the 21st century. My favorite subjects were always the historical, political and more philosophical classes. We need to encourage this thinking and spark interest in the new jobs which fuel Lovia's economy. We have to set standards higher for more Science and Mathematics. Allowing students to also study history and english so they can progress and learn from the past but not make our same mistakes. We need new thinkers, but also new tinkerers that power our homes, power our trains, and lead future generations to think and continue a great tradition of Lovian thinkers.

Please vote for me, not to gain a new title, or to gain a new job. But because our children and most vulnerable need a good politician and a true clymeni to lead this state towards the forefront. Marcus/Michael Villanova 01:35, September 21, 2013 (UTC)

@ Marcus- Two things: 1. Our healthcare system is pretty comprehensive now, after a few years of work. If you get elected the only thing to really do is actually work on the funding methods for it. 2. Good luck, hopefully you'll get elected and people see the need for a forward-thinking governor. I gave my votes, though I must say it's a rather strange poll. SE elections vary from state to state. While immigration might not be a huge problem in most states, it's top-priority in Oshenna f.e. --OuWTB 13:44, September 23, 2013 (UTC)
Of course, this is a poll that is only accurate on a nation-wide level, but it'd be difficult to make an easily comprehended state by state polling that was accurate (inhabitants voting in their state polls). This at least we can say that the immigration concerns come largely from Oceana, and other such things for other states. Hoffmann LogoCNP2wt KunarianTALK 14:17, September 23, 2013 (UTC)

Kings Debate

This is a debate for Frijoles, Wabba and Viva. Keep answers as short as possible but explain fully. And in the debates, remember, remain calm! I have the final say on everything as the moderator of this debate.

Welcome to the debate, tonight we are seeing how two of the three candidates for Kings Governor shape up against each other.
First we have Jhon Lewis of the CCPL and then we have Marcel Cebara of UL.
Glad to have both of you here, you'll both get a short opening statement and then we'll move onto questions.
Okay we'll go from left to right, so Marcel could you give us a brief introduction of yourself please.
Marcel Cebara: Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. And of course to my opponent here, Mr. Lewis. I am Marcel Cebara and I believe that I can offer a new choice for Governor to the people of Kings. I can bring enthusiasm, and fresh ideas to the job. I want to be Governor of this state because I want to give the people of Kings a bigger say in state affairs. I want to improve education, and make sure that every child in Kings leaves school with the world class education they deserve. Thank you, and good luck to Mr. Lewis.
Rakham Tarik Al-Asmari: Hello, I am Rakham Tarik Al-Asmari. Please don't mind the long name, just call me Rakham. I offer an alternative to the mainstream policies we have seen in recent years. I offer progression and solidarity, but I also remain true to the traditionary values held by many of Lovia's citizens. My hope is that we can rally behind this leadership, and push Kings to the forefront of Lovian politics and economics. Thank you.
Jhon Lewis: My opening statement is short but strong! I hope the people of Kings will elect a new Governor with their brains. Not with a group conformism. I think still many people are not reacting or doing something with their opinion because they think many other people are against their ideas. I hope those people will stand up and scream their ideas!
Thank you all
Now we move on to questions
First topic is education
Kings has remained reasonably stagnant in the matter of education this past year, while other states have experienced a growth in this sector.
If you were elected, what would you do in the education sector?
Marcel Cebara: I would like to thank the moderator for bringing up this topic, as I believe that is a pressing issue in our state. If elected, my administration would strive to give every child in Kings the world class education they need for today’s world of work. A priority for me and the state government will be to improve secondary education across the state, by opening several new schools and ensuring that teaching standards remain at their current high. Additionally, I would like to bring in state legislation regarding language education, to ensure that every child receives a firm grounding in Lovian and world languages. Moving on to higher education, we have an excellent university in Newhaven, with some ground breaking research and inspiring teaching occurring there every day, however we must strive to make higher education an accessible, realistic goal for every person up and down the state. To summarise, I believe that our state’s education sector is very strong, but several more schools need to be built, and we must maintain the current standards of teaching and learning.
Rakham Tarik Al-Asmari: I believe that a strong state-led education system would help in advancing learning within the state. I would see to it that Kings would gain total control over its educational system, and use that independence to reform it and mold it to the needs of King's residents. One one-arching system for Lovia's young and growing cannot effectively handle all of the unique challanges and requirements in each state. Teachers must be properly motivated – socially and economically. Students must be properly educated, we need new books, better funding for advanced classes, a more dynamic learning environment. Education is viewed as boring by many children. Make it an experience they were cherish for the rest of their lives.
Jhon Lewis: If every State has its own education system and plans the State of Kings can open many high schools and secundary schools too with money from the State. There would be no Government opinion in it. The State of Kings can make its own education laws so these will restruct the education in Kings with the opening of new schools and changing the subjechts in lessons. Changing the sales, working hours and schedules.
Again thank you for the answers, if you wish to have a short free debate with each other now, you may

Right onto the second topic, the economy
Kings is the second largest economy out of the states in Lovia, it's famed for its various professional services and Newhaven enjoys a position as the second financial and trade centre of the nation
What would you do, if elected, to improve the economy of Kings?
Marcel Cebara: If elected Governor my main economical priority would be to ensure the growth and continued development of our state’s main industries, including farming and fishing. The economies of many small hamlets in Kings have been damaged by the construction of Connection Bridge, which despite its part in improving our infrastructure has led to an unfortunate decline in the marine transport industries of several of the state’s hamlets, which is yet another reason why we should invest in these key industries, helping them to grow and creating jobs. We will also look to support small businesses, and struggling families from across the state.
Rakham Tarik Al-Asmari: Well, speaking as a businessman, I see increased development of Kings' natural resources and economic capital as a vehicle to increase profit for all residents in the long run. Banking is a mode that can serve the state well if properly cared for by state leaders. As governor of this great state, I would make lowering interest rates on loans to encourage large purchases to increase the state coffers. Also, I would see to it that small businesses have a better chance in competing on a state-level, rather than the town or hamlet levels we see today. Another major advancement would to make Kings an appealling place to reside, to draw in innovators from other parts of the globe, and to set up their businesses here in Kings to increase compitition, and to build a solid market that would provide hundreds of new jobs within years of their startup. Building a business takes time, but it will be well worth it in the long run.
Jhon Lewis: I hope we can stay as a good economy State. The services sector is important but is on its almost peak. I think investing more in farmery, fishery, agriculture, mining and labor is good too but not on a small way but on a big way with some very big companies owned by the State.
Good answers from all, free debate may begin
DEBATE
Debate ends
Onto the last but not least topic, healthcare
Kings has a reasonable healthcare sector, and we have a large amount of independent doctors too, however people have complained about the lack of a comprehensive healthcare system
If elected, what would you do with healthcare in Kings?
Marcel Cebara: Well, on a personal level I would most certainly agree with the concerns that you’ve outlined. I believe that it is imperative that every citizen of Kings is given easy access to an excellent healthcare system. If elected Governor, I will make it a priority that every citizen is given a guarantee of healthcare. But of course, to make this happen we need excellent hospitals and doctors, of which we already have many, and we need to embrace the latest medical technology also. If elected, my administration will look to move Newhaven’s main hospital to a more spacious, modern location in the neighbourhood of East River. Additionally, we will aim to open medical centres in Portland and Beaverwick.
Rakham Tarik Al-Asmari: Ah, of course. Right now, the healthcare system is not entirely deversified, and lacks many options in terms of certain types of healthcare, insurance, and financial compansation by the government. Additionally, costs are going up as many Lovians who have completed their medical training, see little long-tern economic opprotunity in Lovia. Let's just be honest here; Kings and Lovia as a whole, are not very big, and lack many potential patients, aka clients, that make being a doctor at home a very unappealing option. Many are moving abroad, were costs, though lower, are more populous with many more paying patients. We need to find ways of keeping them here, and though I'm not suggesting hurting youself to lower costs at home, I do suggest that Kings become a major medical center to draw in more patients from abroad seeking first-rate treatment, and sponsering attempts to lower medical costs at home to make treatment for resident Lovians, and those of Kings' most importantly, more affordable. Bear in mind, becoming a medical center could draw in foreigners who may one day decide to return, and reside here permanently.
Jhon Lewis: All medical centers and hospitals must be sold to the State of Kings so the State can appoint heads of hospitals. One of the centers can be given to the Blackburn University so students will have a good educational opportunity. The State can make some new laws to have a thoroughly renovated system of healthcare. Every hospital has its own normal and main sectors but every hospital will have some special services like a heart department in one hospital and a serious injuries department. Also every hospital or center will have a extensive and well equipped children's department.
Thank you all, the last free debate may begin
DEBATE
Debate ends
Thank you for your contributions to this debate
You may all now make short closing statements
Marcel Cebara: Thank you ladies and gentlemen, it's been a wonderful privilege to speak to you tonight. I would like to close by summing up in a few short sentences why I am the person who can best fulfill the duties that come with the job of Governor. I want to keep our state a great one for many years to come, by investing in education, introducing a healthcare service that is accessible to every single person in the entire state. I will fully and whole-heartedly represent the people of Kings on a federal level, but most of all I will be an active Governor, and a dedicated Governor. Thank you, goodbye and goodnight!
Rakham Tarik Al-Asmari: Like my fellow Lovians, I wish to see my children and their children reside here in Kings for a long time. However, like any human being, they will have to make that decision to stay here themselves. If we don't make Kings into a state that has the best of the best and the greatest centers for the next generation of Lovians, they may decide to move away, taking with them that next generation of thinkers, economists, entertainers and leaders. Let's make Kings the greatest state in Lovia. Let's keep Kings great. Thank you and goodnight.
Jhon Lewis:
Thank you, goodbye Kings and goodnight

The Hugo Mendes Show- Hugo speaks to Lukas Hoffmann

Tonight on The Hugo Mendes Show, Hugo spoke with Governor of Sylvania, Lukas Hoffmann. Hugo and Lukas chatted about Lukas' state election campaign in the state. Lukas was also quizzed by Hugo, on a variety of political topics including healthcare, culture and devolution. Here is the interview in full!

The show was taped at Broadcasting House, Noble City in front of a live audience

Broadcast on Saturday 28th September at 9pm on Kaboom 1

Mr. Mendes- Good evening Noble City, and welcome to the Hugo Mendes Show! Tonight I'll be speaking to the Governor of Sylvania himself, Lukas Hoffmann! So, without further ado, may I present, Lukas Hoffmann!

(Lukas enters to a musical accompaniment by the band)

Mr. Mendes- Good evening Mr. Hoffmann, how are you?

Mr. Hoffmann- Good good, the ride home wasn't bad and neither was the ride here. Glad to be here, by the way.

Mr. Mendes- Yes, we're very pleased to have you here! So, to start off with, could you just summarise your plans for Sylvania for this coming year?

Mr. Hoffmann- Well, that'll be difficult as now we've got real tangible powers at a state level we've developed a wide and varied set of policies so that we can show the people of Sylvania what we've got to offer and really show them how devolution is benefiting them. However I'll outline the central policies I'm holding to in this campaign.

Mr. Mendes- Excellent! Do go ahead...

Mr. Hoffmann- Well of course this is just a taster, you can catch me everyday in speakers corner for the duration of this campaign to detail the rest. In our culture policy we're aiming to really bring knowledge about local and state culture to our youngsters, we want more libraries and museums as well as local and state history being taught in schools. With our economic policy, we want to bring business and unions together and we want to support entrepreneurs and fight multinationals. And in policing, we really want to crack down on anti-social behaviour and invest in a police academy. Not to mention we want to actually build the health service we've recently legislated for. Is that a good outline Hugo?

Mr. Mendes- That is a good outline indeed! And I'm glad you've bought culture up actually, as I wanted to ask you about that too!

Mr. Hoffmann- Right! see, two steps ahead! always two steps ahead! *laughs*

Mr. Mendes- Sylvania has a unique culture and history, is this something that you'll be looking to promote across the rest of Lovia?

Mr. Hoffmann- It depends what you mean by promote

Mr. Mendes- Well, I mean to raise awareness of the state's culture and history

Mr. Hoffmann- Of course, we want to raise awareness of the states rich and vibrant culture and history across the entirety of Lovia, in fact I'd support the creation of Sylvania Studies as a subject for universities. However I feel that's more importantly done on a national level rather than a state level. On a state level I'm going to ensure that all Sylvanians know about their rich and vibrant local traditions and cultures while also ensuring they learn about their home state.

Mr. Mendes- In fact, I'd be interested in taking such a course!

Mr. Hoffmann- Well you know who to vote for then! *winks*

Mr. Mendes- Now, state elections are also occuring in the other four states of Lovia, and the CNP have two other candidates, Charles Jones in Clymene and Dave Leskromento in Seven. Have the three of you worked closely to form policy together for these elections, or has it been left up to each candidate?

Mr. Hoffmann- Yes we've worked incredibly closely but not quite in the way of formulating one Lovia wide policy, the CNP believes in devolution and so we also believe in devolved policy. I mean come on, the same economic policy for a secondary industry heavy state like Clymene isn't going to be the right one for Seven. Therefore Leskromento and Jones are working very independently on this and I trust them to be able to formulate good plans and execute them with enthusiasm. Of course if they really go outside of the CNP framework we have ways of reeling them in. But as I state, I think that a vote for Leskromento or Jones will be a vote well spent.

Mr. Mendes- Yes, devolution has been a focus for you in this past year. You've successfully set up a Sylvanian State Council, however you attracted some criticism for making the council bicameral. How would you respond to that?

Mr. Hoffmann- Well it was an experiment based on personal knowledge, and I've said we're going to review the state of the council and we're looking at various options that offer the same protections the bicameral system does but is maybe simpler or more flexible to legislate with. The reason I originally made it so was because we needed a check and balance system so that parties had to make an effort to co-operate and make policies for the majority rather than the minority, without the bicameral system the Noble City representatives would be able to force pro-Noble City legislation through to the detriment of other areas. And that is wrong, and I'm glad we made sure it didn't happen.

Mr. Mendes- Next, I'll be asking you about healthcare...

Mr. Hoffmann- Fire away

Mr. Mendes- One of your recent achievements in the State Council has been the foundation of a statewide healthcare service, what will you be doing next in the state regarding healthcare?

Mr. Hoffmann- Well now that we've ensured that all Sylvanians, as well as Lovian citizens and even non-Lovian citizens receive care in the state immediately without hesitation and that wealth isn't a factor in the quality or speed with which they receive it, it's onto actually implementing it. To further the care for our residents I want to implement a national insurance system that will help ensure that pharmaceutical drugs are affordable on the high street. Additionally I want to start building the clinics and hospitals we legislated for, it's time for the elbow grease and legwork and we will get it done.

Mr. Mendes- Great, I'm glad to see healthcare in Sylvania is making progress Unfortunately, we have time for only one more question...

Mr. Hoffmann- Well I'll make my answer good then

Mr. Mendes- Earlier in the year there were some feelings of Western Sylvanian nationalism, where do you and your party stand on this issue?

Mr. Hoffmann- Well, my good friend Charles Bennett was involved heavily in that movement and he was a passionate supporter for devolution going further than just to the states. His concerns for democracy were completely right and I worked with him to correct the deficit. The movement has died down ever since we accomplished devolution to the states and I implemented local councils which has given the people of West Sylvania a voice and given them much more control over what happens in their area. I think that any claim now that Western Sylvania does not have a voice or is unable to influence its own affairs can be looked at with little standing. They have a voice and they are in control of their affairs and now we can stop worrying about a lack of democracy and move forth with bigger and better plans than ever.

Mr. Mendes- Excellent, and a good way to finish the interview too! I'd now like to invite you to make a short closing statement, summing up why you are the man to lead Sylvania into 2014

Mr. Hoffmann- Right. Firstly I want all Sylvanians to cast their minds back a year ago. Sylvania under Marcus Villanova, who tried his best, had ground to a halt and the state which in many ways is at the heart of Lovia was faltering and slowly down economically and socially it was divided. Then a new and upcoming politician narrowly got elected to the governorship, me. Since then we've worked on helping the poor, legislating for public services, establishing a state council, we've helped individuals build new schools, given locals a voice, worked on raising awareness of local and state cultures and more. We've come so far, but that was just getting us back on our feet, now we need to walk and run. We can now move forwards with real change and real development, bringing Sylvania even further into the future. Just ask yourself, have we moved forwards in Sylvania? and if the answer is yes then you know who to vote for. Thank you Hugo and it's been a pleasure.

Mr. Mendes- Thank you Lukas, it's been great chatting to you!

Legal base for claiming Western Sylvania?

I just found out something: [4]

It seems Dimitri made a mistake in map-drawing. Does this mean Oshenna can formally claim Western-Sylvania and Discovery Isle? :o --OuWTB 12:49, September 29, 2013 (UTC)

No, because it doesn't agree with the actual history. You can go ahead and try and claim it but it'll only make you vulnerable to Semyon's attempts to take the head adminship! :O Hoffmann LogoCNP2wt KunarianTALK 12:52, September 29, 2013 (UTC)
I think I might use it for a nice historical story about King Arthur II (or whoever was in charge in 1905) :P --OuWTB 12:53, September 29, 2013 (UTC)
You could use it for the basis of a story that grants an Oceana claim in the forming of the states. As western Sylvania (the headland specifically) was dominated by Stephen's Land (a loose grouping of settlements) along with the independent areas of Charleston and Jason's Ranch, which I believe the Americans of Collinia might have claimed at some point during the negotiations due to the fertile lands and feeling that they were owed something due to the loss of Bostaat. And Discovery Island famously embarrassed diplomats of Collinia and assisted Bostaat and they did demand reparations and make claims in the discussions as detailed on Pool. So really a claim wouldn't be too unlikely. Hoffmann LogoCNP2wt KunarianTALK 13:00, September 29, 2013 (UTC)
:o Also, perhaps the NC government was afraid to create a Slavic state on which they had little influence, therefore adding Western Sylvania, and Oceana's population was relatively low as well :P --OuWTB 13:03, September 29, 2013 (UTC)
That might have been discussed by the more Machiavellian of the Kings advisers however I'm pretty sure once proposed to the Stephen's Land residents, in any form, was promptly refused, especially by the fiercely independent settlements of Jason's Ranch and Charleston. It could've even been something that raised the willingness of Collinian representatives (the slavic ones) to rescind all claims to Bostaat, Western Sylvania and Discovery Isle. Hoffmann LogoCNP2wt KunarianTALK 13:12, September 29, 2013 (UTC)
Mmm.. But that still does not explain why Boborbrod and Severnybana were handed over :o --OuWTB 13:27, September 29, 2013 (UTC)
Boborbrod was within the Pale pre-1905 and was content with NC governance. Whereas most settlements under the Pale south of the Beaver River were discontent and felt more connected with the Slavs in Collinia and equated the Dutch/Belgian government of NC with the American government of Collinia. Severnybana was part of Bostaat. Hoffmann LogoCNP2wt KunarianTALK 13:38, September 29, 2013 (UTC)
Mmm.. Not fully satisfying answers, but I'll take 'em :P --OuWTB 13:44, September 29, 2013 (UTC)
Well obviously they weren't for some people at the time either. After the forming of the states some areas that were divided on where they had wanted their settlement to be in the political division experienced crime and trouble, like some areas of the TV Plains that wanted Bostaat to be its own state. Hoffmann LogoCNP2wt KunarianTALK 13:55, September 29, 2013 (UTC)
Well, I can understand that Severnybana and Boborbrod were placed under Sylvania for practical reasons (Emeralds and Beaver River as border). Couldn't that've had some influence? :o --OuWTB 13:59, September 29, 2013 (UTC)
Oh of course, I was thinking of political reasons. There of course was a geographic reason, which was also the reason for why Bostaat formed as it did, because the beaver river and the Emeralds provided a natural barrier to Collinian influence. WNFA Leaders League

Some of you may have heard of WNFA, the Wikinational Football Organisation that consists of almost 10 wikinations. These include highly reputable wikinations such as Lovia, Brunant, Kemburg, Maores and Libertas. For those have you who haven't seen it, be sure to check it out by clicking here.

The WNFA Leaders League is back again, and with Brunanter club Grijzestad Strijders winning last year, it's another battle for the title, and with Grijzestad surprisingly not qualifying for the competition this year, it's one of the most open years in the history of WNFA. For those of you that want to see your teams' progress in the competition, or simply just want to see how everything's going, be sure to click here every week.

If you're new to WNFA, and just want to sign up to the organisation, please message me here.

A roleplay system for Wikination?

Let me just get out of the way first. I love this wiki. It made me feel welcome when I joined this wiki months ago. They were accepting of anyone's suggestions, but, I feel like there's something missing from this wiki. Yes, this is a wiki about a fictional nation, but it just seems boring after a while. You don't really get to "interact" in the nation. It also seems too easy that you can get an apartment unit in one of the vacant apartments of the country, as long as it is vacant. I then brainstormed about a roleplay system, which would make living in the country of Lovia much more realistic.

Here's my plan:

When you create a new user on this very wiki. You get to name your person and their personal info. After they are created, you have some ranks. When you join the wiki, you will gain the rank of immigrant. Then, you are faced with a page that shows and compares the various places to live. It will show the cities and towns the names, how much the average house or apartment unit costs. When they make their choice and click on the city/town of their choosing, they then have to choose their house/aparment unit. When they buy their house/apartment unit, some money will be taken away from their bank account. Their starting amount is $10,000 Lovian dollars, to make the move easy for them.

After they move in their apartment/house, then they are presented by an infobox below the page they are visiting, it shows the name, the amount of money they have in their bank account, their health, and their inventory. On a page that is interactive (such as a restaurant or apartment). For example, lets say that their apartment unit has a pool, you click "Go to the pool", and then you go in the pool, and when you are tired, you are forced out of the pool. When you are tired enough, in the apartment/house, you will be forced to go to sleep or if you are anywhere out of reach of a bed, you'll faint and wake up in an awkward position the next morning.

Now, I like to make this clear. It is actually $9,500 Lovian dollars in their bank account, which is a Maxi debit card. They have $5,000 Lovian dollars in banknotes as emergency cash. Time in Lovia will be advanced an hour every twenty minutes in realtime.

Now, here are some of the scenarios that you can roleplay in.

Say you went go to the Big Kahuna fast food restaurant and want to order the Big One by itself. According to the menu, it is $6.90 in Lovian dollars, but there is a $0.40 tax, which will make it $7.30. You'd basically click "Pay", and then The Big One appears in your inventory (and $7.30 disappears from your bank account). When you click on the "Big One" in your inventory, you'd eat the burger, and your health would say "Full". If you stuff yourself however, you will eventually gain the status of "Overweight" and if you eat long enough, "Obese".

Now, the jobs system.

Now, let's say you want to work at a Maxi supermarket around the country. On the bottom of the Maxi page, you'd click on "Get a Job Here at Maxi". You'll be redirected to a page where it asks you which Maxi supermarket you want to work at (a tip is that you choose one close or in your city). When you choose your location, you are asked to fill out a job application. You write your personal (read: fictional) info, and sometimes, the job applications allows immigrants, other times it doesn't. When you finish the job application and submit it, it randomly chooses on whether you're accepted or not. If you're accepted, congratulations! You will get your salary (which can be increased or decreased by getting promotions). If you're rejected, continue your search for a job.

Now, I'm going to have to stop here, since it might take up the entire page if I continue writing my roleplay plan. I might start a user page on my account and write out the entire roleplay system.

Do you like it, do you think it can be implemented into the Wikination? Write your responses below.

Adams990 (talk) 03:21, October 29, 2013 (UTC)

Eh, that would probably require either some very complex wikicode, or constantly updating admins (which would also be difficult for this particular community). 77topaz (talk) 05:07, October 29, 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for sharing some ideas! However, there are several issues: first: time will advance an hour every twenty minutes: eventually we will run into the future, which is something I don't not particularly like. I don't want space ships all over the place in say five years.. Also, this would require an enormous administrative effort. Which will make some users full-time registrators instead of something they would really want to be, causing them to perhaps leave the wiki soon.
The inventory thing is not possible. We would actually need a technical developer for that and possibly even ask Wikia to enable tools that might not even have been developped for wikias. Also, some users (most users) are not online each day, which is reasonable, as this wiki is meant for fun.
Also, in general, our new users are a bit clumsy. As we cannot make this system run automatically, they will probably make it run very badly in a very short time :P
So, unfortunately, this is still too complex to be actually implemented on a wiki :) --OuWTB 07:12, October 29, 2013 (UTC)
I'm sure this could be done, but It would take months, and would be too complex with the system not runnning automatically. I agree with Oos about time advancing an hour every 20 minutes. We would just have to use Wikia buttons, which would mean every single page would need thousands (infinite for this to last forever) of itself to update inventories. The interactive map would be fine. Happy65 Talk CNP LogoCNP 08:23, October 29, 2013 (UTC) (This would also destroy Lovia - it wouldn't be a wikination any more).
Okay, so to combot these problems. I would probably have to strip the Lovian time system, and rely on realtime. So we don't head to the future, and get ourselves stuck in the 2100s. I still think that we can add some roleplay function in there. Still have the jobs and buying food at a restaurant, and getting a block at the apartment. I am trying to suggest for it to be user-friendly for first time users. But if it doesn't work, its okay. Anyway, its a good idea while it lasted but reality will prevent it from happening. Thanks for your advice/criticism guys! Adams990 (talk) 10:50, October 29, 2013 (UTC)
The idea makes sense; however, the wiki code would be very advanced. None of us (to my knowledge), have much more programming skills that can be used online than basics of Java, C++, Visual Basic, Python, or Lua, so we wouldn't be able to start it... --Quarantine Zone (talk) 21:07, October 29, 2013 (UTC)
Well, and even if we had, we would not be able to implement it, because we do not have access to the Wikia servers. --OuWTB 09:38, October 30, 2013 (UTC)
It sounds like an interesting idea, but I really think it'd get way too complex, and I doubt that it'll work out anyway :P 4kant,6FRÅGOR??? 14:59, October 30, 2013 (UTC)
One possibility would be to contact the Wikia Staff, but it might still be too complex to work. Also, admins could edit the MediaWiki files for the wiki. 77topaz (talk) 02:57, October 31, 2013 (UTC)
Not too sure whether Wikia staff is gonna invest that much amount of time for a single medium-sized wiki though :P Also, mediawiki files largely have to do with lay-out, not with the technical stuff itself. --OuWTB 09:54, October 31, 2013 (UTC)

Suggestions and questions about Lovian roads.

Lovian highways suggestions and questions

So, I have known about the highways in Lovia, but however, most of the articles on these Highways and the Highway Plan is mostly unclear. I know there are exits, but what kind of exits are they? (Are they interchanges or intersections?). So, I decided to start a topic to clarify the highway system while adding a few suggestions along the way.

Here my questions:

1. What kind of exits are they? Are they intersections or interchanges. If they are all interchanges, are some of the highways Super-2s then (like Highway 6)? (Super 2 meaning that they're two-lane roads that are freeways with interchanges but isn't four-lane).

2. What are the lengths of the highways? All of the highway pages I've seen have no lengths, having N/A in all of them. Its confusing because I don't know the length of the highway. Also, the route description pages are very undetailed, only saying which cities the highway passes through. Do you think we can detail them a bit?

3. I'm wondering what kind of traffic lights Lovia uses? Since the country is located off the coast of California, I am wondering if we should mimic the Californian traffic lights or the mast arms that are common around the United States. Then again, it is up to the mayor to do it, but I really want to know, especially since Noble City has over 60k people.

Now, my suggestions:

1. When I lived in the Mid-Atlantic and New England parts of the US, I noticed that on turnpikes, they have service areas. A service area would usually have a gas station, a bathroom, and a few restaurants (mostly fast-food eateries). I'm wondering if we can add some service areas to our longer highways or in gaps on highways where the nearest town might be very far. Particulary Highway 4.

2. Freeways that don't fit the highway standards. I've been wondering if we should classify the airport connector from Highway 1 to the NCIA as the "NCIA Connector". Again, this stems from the T.F. Green Airport connector in Rhode Island, where there would be a few exits before reaching the airport.

Now, for some off-topic stuff. I am going to travel to Brunant and Kemburg to contribute to their countries. I might move out of my apartment and have homes in the capitals of Brunant and Kemburg. I'll visit Noble City sometimes. Anyway, I'll just leave this up for discussion. Adams990 (talk) 01:27, October 31, 2013 (UTC)

I like all of these ideas, and believe it or not I was thinking of some ideas about how we could improve Lovia's highways and roads...

1. In England (where I live) we have motorways (M1, M2, M3 etc.) and then A roads (A1, A2, A3 etc.), as well as B roads and then just normal streets which you'd find within towns, villages and urban areas. The motorways link big cities (for example the M4 links London with Heathrow Airport, Bristol and South Wales) and then A roads usually link smaller cities and towns together. I was thinking we could do this in Lovia, keeping the existing highways but also having a network of smaller "mini highways" (or whatever everyone wants to call them) So for example, we already have Highway 4 which travels through much of Sylvania, but doesn't go anywhere near Charleston. We could solve this by having another "mini highway" connecting Clave Rock with Charleston. Not only would this allow easier transportation between these places and Charleston, it would give people in Stephen Headland and Charleston access to the Highway system, cutting journey times between these places and big cities connected to the system. In England, A roads have less lanes of traffic than motorways and sometimes a lower speed limit. This idea wouldn't necessarily be expensive or difficult to implement, as we could adapt existing country roads. Anyway, I'll draw up a full plan on my user page, cause I quite like this idea SmileD

2. I really liked the idea about service areas. We should probably build a few on Lovian highways, particularly just outside major cities, and near airports, as this is where there would be most activity on the highways.

Oh and answering your second question, there's a map here with the highways drawn on that might help you Frijoles333 Marcel Cebara TALK 07:42, October 31, 2013 (UTC)

I like the service areas too, we should implement them. Also, considering the size of Lovia, I don't think the highway will have interchanges, at least not outside of the Noble City/urban area(s). By not having interchanges, we could also more easily connect the smallest hamlets to the highways. @length: if you want, I can calculate the length, as we've decided the size of Lovia. --OuWTB 10:00, October 31, 2013 (UTC)

Length

  • Highway 1: 555÷2018×1951×48,75×2=52315,90m (52,3 km/32,5 mile)
  • Highway 2: 470÷2018×1951×48,75×2=44303,56m (44,3 km/27,5 mile)
  • Highway 3: 485÷2018×1951×48,75×2=45717,50m (45,7 km/28,4 mile)
  • Highway 4: 1025÷2018×1951×48,75×2=96614,46m (96,6 km/60,0 mile)
  • Highway 5: 670÷2018×1951×48,75×2=63156,13m (63,2 km/39,2 mile)
  • Highway 6: 375÷2018×1951×48,75×2=35348,58m (35,3 km/22,0 mile)
  • Highway 7: 480÷2018×1951×48,75×2=45246,18m (45,2 km/28,1 mile)

Not to sure about how miles function so I just took 1 mile = 1609,344m :P

Hope you guys can use this for the infoboxes or whatever you need this for :P --OuWTB 10:37, October 31, 2013 (UTC)

Looks like you understand the function of miles perfectly. :P Another interesting fact: I'm back, though it probably wasn't necessary to explicitly state it. --Semyon 14:34, October 31, 2013 (UTC)
I'll be updating the lengths of the highway. Thanks! Adams990 (talk) 14:41, October 31, 2013 (UTC)

Message

Hey all. I've decided that having been active on Wikination for well over three years, I'm going to begin to wrap up. It's been very fun, but I've realised I don't have the time or inclination to continue indefinitely. There are lots of great users both old and new who can continue to carry the baton. :)

Rather than just disappear suddenly, I think I'll gradually just edit less and less over a period of a few months, until I'm completely inactive. I joined the site in May 2010 and will be gone by May 2014 at the latest. I will not be standing in the 2014 federal elections, and will hand over governorship to Happy early in the year. At the same time, I'll deadminify myself.

I should remain contactable after I've gone, and seeing as I've put a lot of effort into this wiki and many hours of stupid convos, I'm very happy to add anyone who wants on facebook.

I'm wondering if there is anything else I should say, but can't really think of anything. :) --Semyon 23:35, November 2, 2013 (UTC)

I'll have to be doing the same thing soon, in a way. Which Is why in the begining of the year I made a similar statement. "I'm stopping my federal involvement, and focusing local" so I don't take up too much space :P Marcus/Michael Villanova 00:49, November 3, 2013 (UTC)

Who do I vote for now when Oos isn't an election? Also, I would like to point out that when Semyon resigns, Happy will become governor of Seven, leaving the Deputy Governor spot open. We will need to reelect a Deputy Governor. There was procedure for this in the Seven state law at one point, but it was removed (I added it for occasions like this, but it's gone now...) The procedure said that the new governor could select anyone who would normally be a valid candidate in gubernatorial elections. --Quarantine Zone (talk) 01:04, November 4, 2013 (UTC)
I am sorry to hear this, Semyon, but I respect and fully understand your decision. The way things are going with me now, I may have to make a similar step eventually. We will see. Polynesia wiki

Hey guys, I was wondering if I could have some assistance in building up rightist.wikia.com. The wikination has very few articles, but has the essential forums, constitution, and a short article about the nation. I'm sure Lovia would like some help with tagog, but Polynesia can't help if it doesn't exist. Thanks. --Quarantine Zone (talk) 02:39, November 10, 2013 (UTC)

Kings Court House

As you probably know, I've been arranging elections for the Kings State Council. All has gone well, and now I just need to find somewhere for the council to meet. I had the idea of renaming the Kings Court House to the Kings State Capitol, and having the council meet there, as the building isn't used much ever since State Courts were abolished. here would be no major structural changes to the building, just the main court room would be converted into a state council chamber and other rooms would be converted into offices for senior members of the state government. I just felt I should announce my plans here, and get the approval of a member of government, as the building is protected by the National Monument Service. Not in full glory as before but in partial glory and with a plethora of new knowledge on how governments work, especially one on the scale of Lovia as I have been closely involved in the work of the Gloucestershire County Council. I've noticed that currently Lovia has lost a few people but is still alive and well.

I'd like to return with a suggestion on renovating our political system so that it works a little more predictably and easily, allowing people to engage in it more fluidly and without having to be here every two seconds. I'd also like to continue perusing my other policies as per the usual. An update on current events would be appreciated. :) Hoffmann LogoCNP2wt KunarianTALK 13:27, November 23, 2013 (UTC)

Very good :) --OuWTB 15:56, November 23, 2013 (UTC)

Okay here are my suggestions:

  1. We set the weekends as the days where governments will perform legislative duties
  2. We have a clear list of bills for consideration
    • additionally we limit the amount of things to be considered so that we don't get swamped and can focus
  3. Bills can be proposed at any time during the week but will only be added to the list of bills for consideration, provided there is enough room, otherwise it is dismissed until room is made (unlikely to happen as we'll have a reasonable limit of say 5 bills for consideration)
  4. We have a vote on each motion each weekend to decide whether to move it to a vote, continue amending it or to dismiss it

Under the new system a bill would move through the legislative system like so:

  • Bill proposed
    • A) There's enough room on the list of bills for consideration: Bill is added to the list of bills for consideration
      • Bill is considered on the weekend
        • A) The vote is to move the bill to a vote: On a scheduled weekend no longer than # weeks in the future, a vote occurs
          • Bill is voted upon
            • A) The vote is successful: Bill becomes part of law
            • B) The vote is unsuccessful: Bill is dismissed and removed from the list of bills for consideration and may not be added again for # months
        • B) The vote is to amend the bill: Bill remains on the list of bills for consideration
        • C) The vote is to dismiss the bill: Bill is removed from the list of bills for consideration and may not be added again for # months
    • B) There's not enough room on the list of bills for consideration: Bill is dismissed but may be proposed as soon as a space is available

I think this system would make legislating much more straight forwards and would also make it easier to know when something is finished or started or under amendment and such. It would also make it easier for people to schedule when they need to be where and would give a clearer start and end for a bill.

Currently I'm only proposing this system for congress. But I hope you like it thus far. Hoffmann LogoCNP2wt KunarianTALK 17:40, November 23, 2013 (UTC)

Haven't you guys heard of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"? But at the same time change can be good. My only comment I have on this that 1. We should be able to vote and comment on bills during the week, and 2. I'm not sure we need a limit to the number of bills, as we don't get too many at one time. We could instead be doing something to address the massive bills we sometimes have. HORTON11: InboxFollow me! 14:18, November 27, 2013 (UTC)
4kant is right and on your comments: 1. sure but the vote would end at midnight on a Sunday. 2. Well then the system would work, as it would stop a mass of proposals being made but admittedly would be more of a precaution than something that would be constantly used. Colonisation of Lovia

Settlement Period

We need clarification I do think on when certain areas were settled. Of course, the first settlement was Noble City, established 1875. However what comes next? The map gives a rough idea of how colonisation of the isles should be adapted to our history. Settlement in this example means permanent settlements not just single houses, at least a small hamlet.

Noble city is in yellow, being settled in 1875. The orange yellow are areas being settled in 1876-80. The orange are areas being settled in 1881-1885. The red are areas being settled in 1886-1890. The dark red are areas being settled in 1891+.

If you'd like to contribute to this keep in mind that several sovereign states had formed over time and a few other things:

By 1887 the areas around Noble City and Newhaven are controlled directly by the Kingdom of Lovia, known more commonly as The Pale due to its clear lack of control over all of Lovia. The Pale existed from the moment Noble City was settled.

And from its settling East Sylvania was comprised of a group of Dutch settlements that worked together although were not technically their own states.

Also keep in mind that Novosevensk operates as its own state.

Clymene is interesting as it has an early economic boom from gold. It forms the Northern Territory competing with Novosevensk. Also joining the Northern Territory at one point is northern Kings.

Additionally there's Corporate Collinia to consider, who masterminded the colonisation of Oceana and central Sylvania.

The Headland is colonised late.

I assume that colonisation would work largely by the sovereign states establishing a first port (Noble City, Hurbanova (or Calava), Newhaven, Sofasi, Novosevensk) and then using that to ferry colonists around the islands. Independent settlers might aim to settle away from major settlements.

Help is as always appreciated. Hoffmann LogoCNP2wt KunarianTALK 13:15, November 30, 2013 (UTC)

Settlement Period1

Yellow - 1875
Light Orange - 1876-1880
Orange - 1881-1885
Red - 1886-1890
Dark Red - 1891-1895
Dark Blue - 1896-1900
Light Blue - 1901-1903
Teal - 1904-1905
Grey - 1905+ (after foundation of Lovia)

Okay new map, this time it represents when people started using certain areas of land, it is purely to be used as a base to work from not an actual rule. It'll just detail the earliest time period that area should really have settlements in it. This is a drive by the way to particularly get all the settlements with a certain or rough foundation date. Let us pay our respects

My brothers and sisters, dear sweet people of Lovia, a man of great standing has lost his final battle with death. Nelson Mandela, the man who changed and and inspired a nation, passed on to the next life. Let us remember the things he stood for. Follow in his example. To stand for our principles, the very principles on which this great nation was built. Lovia was founded by white men, by a woman, a black man. They spoke different languages and came from different nations. Their origins as humble as their ambitions noble.

Think of what our founding fathers stood for, Lovians. And never forget that the rights which we now so often take for granted, are anything but a given. That for some, these rights have been earned through trial and error. That for some, these rights were only won after a long and hard fight. Facing tremendous odds.

You never had to break rocks in the blistering sun till your fingers bled. You never had to sleep in a cell so small you could hardly turn around in your sleep. Never woke up for a long time without your loved ones nearby. Without a friendly word, a good book, a proper meal. Mandela did not have these privileges my friends. The attempted to break him but he never bowed. He respected his enemy. Learned their language. Learned their ideas and what caused them to think the way they did. He got to know them, found a common ground. They tried to make him small, insignificant. But in his dark cell he grew to be a legend. And once free, he united a nation and prevented great bloodshed.

His hands were not clean. In his past he has taken some questionable steps. But he always had an open mind, he always continued to develop himself as a person. Gained new perspectives. Sharpened his mind when others tried to dull it. And in the end my dear Lovians, he came out victorious. He was no Saint. Put no one on a pedestal. Great men, my friends, are modest. Study his life. And learn from it. As Mr. Mandela said... be that change you want to see. Naranja Naranja!

Mr. Mandela greatly admired Gandhi and his peaceful resistance against British oppression, although when it comes to peace Nelson only truly started following that peaceful approach once in prison. Armed struggle got him behind bars, reason and empathy got him out. Federal elections

If all goes as it has in the past, candidacies for federal elections will be starting in about two and a half weeks! It's a shame no one has really started talking about the elections yet, as I think most of us on this wiki like a bit of debate/political discussion. So, I'm gonna start a bit of discussion about the elections now! What are your predictions for the elections? What do you think the next congress should focus on? Are you planning to run? It'd be good if we got some pre-election fever going soon! :) Frijoles333 Marcel Cebara TALK 17:33, December 13, 2013 (UTC)

No, it's time for the CNP to win :P 4kant,6FRÅGOR??? 12:31, December 14, 2013 (UTC)
If we can, I'll be delighted but to win would mean a campaign so hard fought, that even I don't know where we'd end up, it could even effect us negatively to try and oust CCPL. I think we should aim to have the second most Ministerial positions or better, that would be a victory that we can almost certainly achieve. Hoffmann LogoCNP2wt KunarianTALK 22:23, December 15, 2013 (UTC)

Well if we trust the Lovian Times predictions from a while a go (which are out of date), we should end up with a CCPL victory leading to another term for Oos as Prem. Second place will be between UL and CNP. SLP and GP will fight it out for third but I would think GP would edge ahead in that one. I think that the only kind of majority governments that could form would be coalitions between CCPL and either UL or CNP, however I think it'll be a grand coalition again with CCPL, UL and CNP taking key positions once more. Hoffmann LogoCNP2wt KunarianTALK 22:19, December 15, 2013 (UTC)

Actually, they should have started a few days ago: "The normal dates of elections, excluding the possibility of a dissolution of Congress, are set at December 10th to 31st for nominations, and from January 1st to 21st for voting." (Constitution, Article 8) TimeMaster (talkcontribs) 12:14, December 16, 2013 (UTC)

LoviaNow polling: 19th December

Introducing the first in the series of several fortnightly pre-election polls that will be conducted by LoviaNow, Kaboom TV's flagship news programme. Polls will take place every other Thursday (no particular reason for that, its just that today is Thursday) between now and January 21st (the day that the polls close in the federal elections).

Vote away!

Royal announcement

It is much to my considerable enjoyment that I announce, today, the birth of a new member of our most beloved Royal Family! My lovely wife, Queen Louise of Lovia, just gave birth to young prince Arthur. It is our desire to remain loyal to our family's tradition, in naming this young prince after our beloved former King, the late Arthur III, as well as several of his predecessors. We hope that in naming him after a great man, his own life will be just as full of ambition and as eventful and worthwhile. Of this we have no doubt.

The young prince was born yesterday evening, weighing nine pounds and one ounce. His second names are Augustus, after the first Roman Emperor in whom I have always recognized any of my own character traits. His second name is Bernhard, after the late Dutch prince Bernhard von Lippe-Biesterfeld, a man I have always greatly admired for his bravery in the field of battle, his sense of his fashion and his unmatched passion, as well as his great love for animals and the environment. The young prince's full name, therefore, is Arthur Augustus Bernhard Noble. Let it be known! And let us rejoice his birth. For truly, his ancestors are glorious and his future destined for greatness.

Dear sweet wonderful Lovians, the entire week will be a week of celebrations! And every first two beers you drink in my son's honour will be on me!

Ukraine

So people's views... The way I see it, the EU backed a revolution (that has quite a few extremists involved), there are massive amounts of russians there and the country is turning into an anarchy. Putin may be land grabbing but is it really wrong? he's aiming to restore order to south-eastern Ukraine which is at odds with the revolutionary government. Would division between Russia and Ukraine be wrong if it would save civil war? I think so, but I want to hear your views. Hoffmann LogoCNP2wt KunarianTALK 19:08, March 1, 2014 (UTC)

Hey, why don't you come to Brunant chat? Happy65 Talk CNP LogoCNP 19:14, March 1, 2014 (UTC)

The EU staunchly backed pro-westerners, though those were the pro-democracy side. Putin may be land grabbing but is it really wrong? Of course it's wrong, don't you see that he's simply trying to re-establish and assert the old Soviet might in Europe and around the world. Sending troops into another country in violation of their sovereignty is not the right thing to do. Like the US, EU and others have said, this should be mediated in a peaceful manner, perhaps before the UN and int'l courts. Sending troops into Crimea and backing a few pro-Russian radicals is further fueling the crisis and provoking more violence. HORTON11: InboxFollow me! 19:17, March 1, 2014 (UTC)
Of course the EU backed pro-westerners and they were not pro-democracy, if they were they would not have risen up against a democratically elected leader over a decision they elected him to make. What has happened is that people have become violent and the EU has supported violence, because it is in their private interest. However it only destabilises them because they've mismanaged it.
Completely, it is wrong to try and recreate an empire. However Europe cannot so easily criticise, nor can the UK or US especially considering the interference and violation of other nations sovereignty that has happened over the years. The west has been pushing east and now the east pushes west. Also Horton, I think you'll find, that of all parts of Ukraine, Crimea is almost certainly in favour of going to Russias side, much to Ukraine's dismay.
On the suggestion of use of UN and international courts, do you really think they'd side with him? no. Russia will do what is in its interest and CAN, because the west has lost its influence in the world outside military force. Putin has been playing a clever diplomatic game for at least a decade now and we've given him the ammunition to shoot with. Hoffmann LogoCNP2wt KunarianTALK 19:27, March 1, 2014 (UTC)
Democracy is about the people being able to rise up against their government when they make decisions that go against what they support. And while the EU may support some violent protesters (which the majority are not), Russia is not guilt-free given they have riled up anti-Ukrainian government support and backed some violent protesters and militias in Crimea. I know of course Crimea is pro-Russian, but the area has been Ukrainian for some time and Russia taking it by force is not the solution to the issue. Russia becoming militarily involved has caused serious concern among the EU, US and other countries and they are simply digging a deeper hole and feeding the violence. Of course we cannot overlook all the times the US has interefered in countless nations' domestic affairs, sovereignty, government, but the solution is not to allow Russia the right to do so as well, instead to prevent nations from doing so again. Sadly Russia would never agree to that (nor would the US in other cases). HORTON11: InboxFollow me! 19:36, March 1, 2014 (UTC)
Force is not democratic. Democracy is not about the people being able to rise up. Democracy is about protest, not violence and about changing government at elections, not overthrowing it when you disagree we are not in the medieval ages here.
On Russia, no they are not guilt free however the EU strategy of telling the Russians to stay out doesn't work. Russia and the EU have stepped this up one day at a time, like playing tennis but with every return the stakes get higher. Had the EU stopped earlier, they might have been able to handle it peacefully but the lines have been crossed and now Russia has had enough of playing by the EU's rules.
There is no backing down now, not realistically at least. And it is unfortunate to say so. If Putin does, then he will look weak and he cannot look weak, the Russian political system is like a pack of wolves not to mention it will look like conceding a victory to the EU, which the Russian people do not want. If the EU backs down then they look weak and they already have a million issues and this would only add to it. The end can now only be one of turmoil, thanks to a lack of diplomacy from both sides.
Also how can we prevent nations from interfering in other nations? Until the west is respected again, we shall never be able to stop someone with words. And getting that respect will take time. The west has dug its own hole and now has to sit in it. Hoffmann LogoCNP2wt KunarianTALK 19:50, March 1, 2014 (UTC)
The government itself voted to impeach the president, return to a more democratic constitution and declare elections, all via democratic means. And if you read the news, it was only a minority of protesters who were violent. And do not forget that these people were being sniped at by Yanukovich's police and viciously attacked for wanting change, so you really think they'd be able to fully remain peaceful? Had Russia also stopped the escalations earlier, they might have been able to handle it peacefully, but sadly Putin can't do peaceful. His ambitions for Russia simply cannot be achieved via democratic means and the current international systemHORTON11: InboxFollow me! 19:59, March 1, 2014 (UTC)
I think we can both agree that this whole thing has been botched from the beginning when both sides stepped up the violence. Also the blame for a lack of a peaceful solution does not lie solely at Putins door. Also the international system is superficial, in truth many nations ignore so called "international law", and how can international law be enforced without an international government? it can't and it never should. International law is a modern term for "a lot of treaties and agreements and aims we'd love to keep to", they are good targets for modern nations but rarely realistic when push comes to shove. Hoffmann LogoCNP2wt KunarianTALK 21:15, March 1, 2014 (UTC)
Could really careless about the 'ethics' of the entire situation. As a Democrat and more importantly an American, I find it extremely painful to see our President just sit by and watch the Russians march into the Ukraine when just half a year ago when we were about to rol; into Syria and the Russians pressured us not too. This will have serious political implications, you'll see the Democratic Party turn hawkish in 2016, Southern Democrats will run on the issue of supporting pro-jingo stances and whatever nominee that runs on being the toughest on Russia will win. Anyway, Obama needs to do some damage control for his legacy because this shouldn't of ever happened. -Sunkist- (talk) 19:19, March 2, 2014 (UTC)
(I'm not trying to sound dumb but...) there is no good side in this battle. The protestors are pretty terrible, and it only gets worse when some (most?) of them are far-right and a small minority are neo-nazis. Russia is trying to continue a sphere of influence post-cold war and see that the "breadbasket" is drifting away and are deeply scared. Their intervention is really not needed. Marcus/Michael Villanova 20:09, March 2, 2014 (UTC)

I'm not really convinced by any of the arguments presented thus far. The protesters are perfectly justified in demonstrating against an unpopular decision by their leader, regardless of whether he was democratically elected. The violence is deplorable but by all accounts it was largely the fault of Yanukovych. The far-right views of some of the protesters is also a shame but it is a nationalist uprising, so that's hardly surprising.

The only way we will see the real views of Ukrainians on the future of their country is when elections are held; protests are always going to be dominated by the politically motivated and those with more extreme views than the average. If the Crimeans want independence, that's rather sad, but I suppose that the principle of self-determination would have to be invoked. Putin, though, clearly isn't interested in self-determination; his intervention is intended only to boost Russia's prestige and ultimately rebuild the Soviet Empire, so he's completely unjustified in his intervention. Unfortunately, it's not clear what anyone can do about it, since no-one wants to go to war with Russia over a bit of land in the Black Sea. Clearly, whatever their faults, the pro-Europeans are more in the right than Putin and Yanukovych.

Despite what some people have said, I don't see that the EU have committed themselves at all. As far as I know, their support has gone only as far as calling for new elections and criticising Yanukovych's repression of protests. It is not (yet) a fully integrated state so military intervention is out of the question. What reason would there be for a Cypriot or a Swede to support a war for the sake of EU integration when it's already such a divisive issue? --Semyon 09:29, March 3, 2014 (UTC)

Initially I had some sympathy for the protesters, but things turned violent quickly. Dozens of police officers were shot and killed by this "peaceful crowd", a pro-government journalist was dragged from his car and beaten to death in the street. For EU officials and the West to back the Maidan protesters without any sort of criticism is a horrible misjudgement in my opinion, and clearly shows a double standard.
The democratically elected president was driven out, his palace overtaken by rebel forces. I don't mind his departure an awful lot as he was a questionable figure at most, a semi-dictator at worst. Thing is... as soon as he was out, the new government announced restrictive law against Russia. Russian would for example be outlawed as one of the country's official languages, a very controversial move and definetely undemocratic given that half the nation, especially the Eastern part, is inhabited by ethnic Russians and Russian-speaking.
After the violent coup and the following provocations, who where in my opinion completely uncalled for, the East rose up in protest and Russia went out to secure it's interests in Crimea, which is historical Russian land and was only given up recently in the Cold War by a Soviet leader. Another controversial leader was released from prison during the coup, on a side note, Yulia Timoshenko. A corrupt former leader of the country who is herself of no less questionable reputation then the ousted president Yanukovich.
Who do I stand with? The people of Ukraine. The people of Ukraine, who are by and large a devided people. Democracy has nothing to do with kicking out a president, violent rebellions, murder and police violence. Democracy is about letting the people say their piece. And if this would happen it is my firm believe there would be a clear devide between Eastern and Western Ukraine. One side would join the West, another would move closer to the East. Anything short of this, is not a truly democratic solution but rather a tug of war over the heads of the people of Ukraine for geopolitical gains of Russia and the EU.

They wouldn't archive the newest portion of the page anyway. 77topaz (talk) 07:31, April 1, 2014 (UTC)

Somehow it seems this section has been ignored completely :o --QytokantFRÅGOR??? 13:39, April 9, 2014 (UTC)

Well maybe an admin should archive the page then. HORTON11: InboxFollow me! 16:47, April 9, 2014 (UTC)
Or perhaps the admins are waiting until this page has 100 sections or so :P --QytokantFRÅGOR??? 05:34, April 10, 2014 (UTC)

Ahhh Sorry :(

Hey I'm so very sorry I've been EXTREMELY inactive lately :( I'm any of my comrades on this site have ever been or known someone in the International Baccalaureate program they understand. I've been doing essay after essay after presentation and haven't the time for wikination recently and may not be for some time sorry :( I now usually spend my free time reading philosophical works and spending mindless hours on tumblr and youtube.

Still, I hope y'all join the Lovian Philosophical Society to appriciate and continue the long traditions of philosophy in Lovia :D Marcus/Michael Villanova 00:28, April 5, 2014 (UTC)

Well, we're all not too active at the moment. But of course, some things are more important than wikiing :P Anyway, good to see you're still around :P --OuWTB 08:38, April 5, 2014 (UTC)

Contest in Traspes

Everybody, I started a new contest in Traspes http://es.traspes.wikia.com/wiki/Discusi%C3%B3n:Pessetimo#Concurso.2Fcontest. I am not good designing on the computer, so anybody who is intested, you can design pessetimo notes for Traspes. The best designs I will choose to be the new money.
