Awake! Awake! is a shoegaze band from Sofasi, Clymene. The band was founded in 2003 by four friends. Awake! Awake! is signed to Warped Records. They are composed of Pete Shelley (guitarist and singer), Johnny Grant (drummer), Kevin Shelly (bassist), Emma White (keyboard and backup singer).
In 2003, the band recorded a demo of Sugar/Exposure and sent it to a local radio station in Sofasi that played a lot of alternative music. The DJ receiving the demo gave it to an employee of Warped Vinyl, who subsequently passed it on to an employee of Warped Records itself. The record label decided to give the band a chance and release their first full-length studio effort Be My Man in 2004. The band was one of the first shoegaze/nu-gaze acts signed to Warped and was added to the catalogue to cater to the dream pop and shoegaze niche.
From 2005-2007 the band went on tour through Lovia, and played a couple of gigs abroad in England and mainland Europe (the Netherlands, France, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland). During this time, the band found enough time to release two follow-ups to Be My Man: On Your Way (2006) and dream pop record Float Away (2007). Displeased with the initial quality of the albums and the expensive recording procedures (Awake! Awake frontman Pete Shelley is known to incorporate dozens of effect pedals in his music, and for fidgeting during the post-production process), Warped Records wanted to drop the band. The label decided against, however, when Awake! Awake! member Kevin Shelley (not related to Pete) decided to leave the band for a short while.
The band went on hiatus in 2008 but returned in 2012. Kevin Shelley returned in 2013 to play bass guitar once again for the band. The band released a new studio album, Miniscule Love, the same year.
